AT FORT BENNING
Majg Paul C. #own, 132
Wray St., Athens, is in the Gen
eral Séction of the Infantry
Schoo] .at Fort Benning, Ga., en
gaged in. the redeployment pro
The officers who will lead the
redeployed soldiers and who are
vet to be graduated from The
Infantry School have been taught
a variety of other subjects which
will make the adi'lustment easier.
The bulk of the Orientation
coursé deals with Japan. The
Leadership instructorsg cite case
histories of good and bad lead
er ship which have been re-~
ported from the Pacific theater.
Officers who have recently re
turned from combat in that area
appear before classes and relate
experienceg Instructors of the
Medical Committee have been
teaching and stressing, for some
time, special problems of hygiene
and sanitation, which are magni
fied in importance t@ the Pacific.
Such problems as control of ma
laria, scrub typhus fever, den
gus fever, and filariasis are stu
died. Automotive and+< material
maintenance, as well as care of
the human body, are given spe
cial study in preparation for war
against the Japs.
l In the early days of the war,
when American forces fought on
[a shoestring in the Pacific, and
even that shoestring was likely
to disintegrate from jungle rot,
they accounted well for them
selves. Now that America’s full
stvength is going into the Pacific,
backed up by prior planning in
;training such as that at The In
fantry School, the nation can be
assured that, more than ever be
fore in its history, the Army 1s
prepared for battle,
