Home-Canned Fruit
Can Be Put Up
Without Any Sugar
So your fausband and your fami
ly prefer your home-canned fruits
and fruit juices, but you can’t
make them as sweet as desired
because of the sugar shortage. If
you can get the fruit to can, can
it by all means! Unsweetened fruit
is better than no fruig at all, and
Americans may be without fruit
next winter if they don't can it at
home now.
The food situation is more ser
ious now tuan in any of the war
years, so it is imperitive that com
mercial supplits be extended with
homg canned food. Besides sugar
extenders, it is possible to can
without sugar, although a certain
amount of color is sacrificed.
Fruit keeps as well canned with
out sugar as with it. That is an
incontrovertible fact. Your grocer
has leaflets whi®a tell you how
to can with sugar extenders and
‘without sugar. If Yae hasn't a sup
p Ply, you can obtain a leaflet.
