Web Of Days
Mrs, Johnny Broadnax will re
view Edna Lee's “Web of Days”
at 4 o'clock on Wednesday, May
21 in the Parish House of Em-
manuel Church. The glowing
comments of those who heard
Mrs, Broadnax review this novel
at the autograph tea sponsored
by Michael’s Book Shoo last
month, have brought many re
quests that St. Martha’s Chapter
ask her to repeat for all who
missed the first one. The author
a former Atlantan, heard the
original review and expressed
herself as delighted with it. This
is quite a feather in the cap of
“Agnes” who has gained a local
reputation for her clever book
reviews.
St. Martha’s Chapter of the
Woman’s - Auxiliary has planned
a series of reviews of current
fiction and non-fiction, this _vtfi
ing the second in the series. In
‘June, Mrs. Kerr Riggs will re
view - Mrs. -George- -Marshall's
“Together.” The small charge of
twenty-five cents goes toward
sehding some girl at Appleton
Church Home to the young peo
lple’s conference at Camp Mikell.
l Book reviews of this sort are
s new venture for Athens the
idea having come with Mrs. Par
malee Watkins from her church
lin Augusta, The occcasion offers
a delightful afternoon’s diversion,
a pleasant social hour with other
book lovers, a novel way of en
tertaining one'’s friends anq helps
an excellent cause. The public 1s
cordially inviled.. . ‘

Mrs. Dorothy Shutt
Girl Scout Council
Mrs. Dorothy Shutt, Executive
Director, made an inspiring re
port on May 13 to the joint group
of Girl Scout Council and troop
leaders assembled at the home of
Mrs. C. A. Trussell, commissioner.
For the past month Mrs. Shutt
had been in Delaware for a pro
fessional orientation course, which
was attended by some forty work
ers in Girl Scouting from all parts
of the country. After four months
of residence in Athens, as director
of the local organization, Mrs.
Shutt was in a position to recog
nize local problems and needs, to
compare notes with other pro
fessional workers, and to return
with new ideas and renewed zeal
for her guidance of Girl Scouting
here.
Registrar, Mrs. Bill Crane, re
ported twenty troops registered
with a membership of 335 girls. It
is interesting to note that four of
these are Negro troops, all of
which have been formed within
the last year. 4
Summer Plans |
Announcement was made that
the Day Camp had been scheduled
for June 9-13 and June 16-20 at
Memorial Park. The annual swim
ming program will start on June
11, and continue through August
20 each Wednesday morning, at
the Legion Pool. Girls are remind
ed that the typhoid inoculation and
a health certificate are necessary
for participation in the swimming.
Blanks can be secured from troop
leaders and from the Girl Scout of
fice in Gallant-Belk’s.
You will find that waxing the
clothes chute will prevene clothes
from getting caught—they’ll
slide through easily. .
