ASKS MORE TEACHERS
ATLANTA, Aug. 7.3——(AP)-——‘
Glynn Colfity” School Sußerinten
dent Ralph E. Hood asked the
Qtate Board or Education today
to increase his teacher-allotment
from 124 to 165 instructors, and
declared unless this was done he
could operate his schools only
seven and one half months,
Hood attributed ! the sudden
need for 41 additional state-paid
teachers to a sharp reduction 1n
federal aid under the Landis
'Act. which contributed to school |
costs in areas where populations
were swollen during the war.
Hood said enrollment in’ Glynn
county schools increased from 3,-
600 to 18,000 in a perioa of 18
months, but that his state teacher
allotment continued at 124. These
teachers, he said, were supple
mented by personnel employed
with Landis Act funds, pringing
the total to 241. !
