We especially enjoyeq seeing the
rooms where children our age

in the auditorium of the First
Baptist church and then walked
past the First Methodist and Pres

Jewish Synagogue. We enjoyed
seeing other interesting things,
such as the Post office and the
City Hall.
June Mellica’s father gave us
a happy surprise one morning.
He brought his moving picture
machine and showed us several
interesting pictures. When ‘we
came back to our room we imi

Our flag monitors for the week

Last Friday we went to the
Post Office, bought stamps, put
them on the envelopes and mailed
Valentines to our mothers and
fathers. 5
Then this week we made a fire
house and grocery store. We
brought all kinds of empty con
tainers with the names of things
on them to put in our store. We
wrote stories and poems about our
neighbors and helpers, too. On
Thursday we-made a booklet with
these papers.
Miss Williamson’s Class
Our student council decided
that we should do something
about so much gum and candy
at school. They asked each class
to make them a list of why we
should not have these at school.
Our class made the longest list,
so we were allowed to make 2a
poster. Elwanda and Mary Ann
made a nice poster. These are our
reasons for not eating candy and
chewing gun at school: 1. It is
not polite to have them when you
can’t give everyone some. 2. They
take your appetite ang you won’t
cat all of your lunch. 2. People
don’t like to see or hear you
chew gum. 4. Germs get on bub
bles. 5. People don’t like to smell
gum. 6. You can’t talk, read or
sing well with them in your
mouth. 7. It wastes. money. 8 It
keeps you from thinking about
your lessons. 9. The wrappers get
on the floors and grounds. We
have agreed that these are good
reasons and that we will not have
these at school.

our room.
Miss Betts’ Class
This week we have had a hap

much better when the sun is shin

day.
In Social Science we have stud
ieq about the church in the Dark
Ages and about Charlemagne.
Charlemagne ruled for forty!
years. His reign is called a point
of lightin the Dark Ages because
he did so much for educatio‘n_._
On Friday we had some Visi
tors from Chattanooga. They
were teachers in the schools
there and they spent the day in
our school studying our program
of work. It makes us feel very
proud that peaple recognize
our school for its good work and
will come so far to see how we
carry on our worx. We hope they
enjoyeq being with us as much
as we enjoyed having them.
Having them here will help us to
work even harder and ftry to
make our good school better so
that we will always be consider

We had such a nice surprise on
Friday before Valentine Day.
The weather was bad and we
could not go out to play. We
went up to the music room for a
story. Then we had such a nice
dinner. When we came back to
our room we found a lovely Val
entine surprise. Mary Nelle Wil
liams& mother had brought paper
plates and lace doilies, paper
spoons and beautiful napkins. On
each plate was ice cream with a
red heart molded in the center.
There were tiny red and white
candy hearts, too. The favors
were Valentine puzzles. We think
Mrs. Williams was very sweet to
us.

We played ball several days
this week with the children in

playing ball very much. We were
so glad to see the sun that we did
not want to come into the houge.
We are all trying to have 100

Robby VYarbrough and Josephine

learning to write with pen and
ink and many of our pupils have
some nice fountain pens.
For the next few weeks we
will study the Life of Matthew

all overcome these by obeying
the Bible and reading it. We sang
several songs, “Into My Heart,”
“Down in My Heart” and “Trust
