read scripture from Deut. 6-6:9
following with a review of the
book, “The Keeper of the Door.”
by Geo. W. Sweazey.
During the business session
several announcements were
made. Minutes of the January
meeting were read ang approved.
The roll was calleq and Mrs. H.
G. McLeroy won the attendance
prize. Mrs. Smith announced uie
Family Life Institute” which will
be held on February 24th, and

tend. The guest speaker for this
occasion will be Dr. Pauline Park
Wilson, dean, of Home Economics
at the University of Georgia.

who will teach the latest ball
room dance steps, rumba, samba,
jitterbug, tango, waltz and other

Miss Starr studied under Ar
thur Murray and with the Fred
Astaire studios in Miami and At
lanta. She also does exhibition
dancing in Miami, Atlanta and
other Southern cities.

on Saturday, when the hours are

man White was quietly solemnized
on February fourteenth at Druid
Hill Baptist Church, Atlanta, ‘in
the presence of a%ew close friends
and relatives. Dr. Louie D. New
ton, pastor, officiated. The double
ring ceremony was used.
The bride wore a navy blue en
semble. A triple strand of pearls
and a white orchid completed her
costume. :

ing was held at the Legion Hall
in Danieisville, Ga., Tuesday,
Feb. 17th, from 10:00 to 3:00 p m.
A truly helpful program was
enjoyed. There was an interesting
discussion on “How Family Life
Promotés ~Wholesome Develop
ment”’ held during the morning
session. This was led by Miss
Willie Vie Dowry, Extension Spe.
cialist from the University of
Georgia.
After lunch, Mrs. F. Young, of
the Universitiy of Ga., gave an
interesting talk on “What makes
Good Family Life.” Then, Miss
Willie Vie Dowdy gave a very
helpful demonstration on kitch
en arrangement.

Spruel Funeral Will 4

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary
Etta Spruel, wife of L. M. Spruel,
will be held from the Crawford
Methodist church at 1:30 this af
ternoon. s .
~ Mrs. Spruel died at her home
in Crawford Thursday afternoon
after a short illness. She was 71
years-old at the time of her
death. She 'was born in East
Lake, Alabama and had been a
resident ot Crawford for the past
three years.
The Reverend Dr. J. W. O.
McKibben will be the officiating
minister, he will be assisted by
the Reverends Horace S. Smith,
and W. D. Gray. Interment will
follow in Watkinsville cemetery.

New Radio Station
Plans Told By
Radio Athens, Inc.
WRFC are the call letters for
a new AM radio station for which
the Federal Communications
Commission has granted a con
gtruction permit to Radio Athens,
Irc, a corporation composed .of
L. H. Christian, L. P, Suddath, jr.,
and Claude Williams.
According to L. H. Christian,
who will be general manager of
the new station, WRFC will oper
ate daytime only (sunrise ‘’til
sunset) with 1000 watts of power
on afifequenc'y of 960 kilocycles.
Studios and business offices of
Station WRFC will be locateq at
264 1-2 North Lumpkin street,
follovying renovation of the
building, ang it is stated that a
lot on Lake 'Road just off Ruth
street has been surveyed for the
radio transmitter and 260 ft. an
tenna tower.

it is his plan to give Station
W listeners complete cov
erage in news ang recorded mu
sie, together with farm and sports
programs, Mr. Christian is an ex
perienced radio man, having been
connected with WGAU some years
ago,_ later transferring to WGGA

to WSGC 4n Elberton. Besides

ger, it is announced that Claude
Williams will be commercial
manager, Charles McClure, pro
motion manager, and Miss Sue
Parks, program director. g
When the new station WRFC
gets under way, Atthens will
have two radio stations, WGAU,
the local CB affiliate, having.op
erated an AM station for a num
her of vears, and now installing
equipment to operate an FM
(frequency modulation) station in
conjunction with its AM station.
