were submitted to the exhibition
by artists in 43 states; the 187
chown at the Exhibition and
subsequently the final three thaf
were purchased for the perma
nent collection, were chosen from
these.
Oddly enough, “Winter Road”
is the outgrowth of a sketch made
by Dood last winter when he was
in Richmond serving on a jury
for the Southern States Art
League, .
One art critic aptly describes
“Winter Road” as “a painting
whnich shows Lamar Dood as an
artist with ideas, with convictions,
with understanding. His technical
proficiency is an adjunct to the
vital expression of his work. In
this canvas is the .- mysterious

posts, the growing rhythms of
trees and grass, accentuated by
ice. There is instinctive use of
space as well as subtly suggested
textures and magnificent patient
quality.

f Dodd has brought national rec
| | ognition to Georgia several times
F | within the past year. Last fall,
he was awardeqd the “$2,000 prize
slin the Pesi-Cola competition,

he was represented by “The
Brezkers,” a powerful seascape,
in which he translated observa~
tions into his own terms to make
{hem convineing and significant.
In recent months national mag
ngjnes carrieq a full page color
advertisement of the Container
Corporation of America, built
around Dodd’s painting, “Geor-‘
gia.”
In February, the Pennsylvania
Academy Show presented Dodd’s
“Solitude,” an impressive oil witn
somber, searching quality. The
March exhibition at the Univer
sity of Tllinois listed the Geor
gian’s “Madonnas in the Rain” as
one of 140 canvasses giving a
’,’t\'oss-section of paintings in the
United States. ;
Dodd staged a one-man show
in the Fine Arts Gallery at the
University of Georgia in Decem
ber, 1947, at which time he exhi
bited 32 paintings and 12 draw
ings, that showed, to a degree,
the development of his career

Tea a Michael's on April 21. Ac
cording to latest reports, the
bathing suits and beach clothing
will be the last word in ‘“high
stvle.” One model that*is partic
‘ularly stunning is a bathing suit

home” summer an event will be
shown.
The Fashion Tea, which is to
be held on Michael's thirq floor
at four o’clock, is creating wide
spread interest in the Athens

lickets are available, and. those
persons wishing to see the show
