in Chicago, Mr. Zubrod competed
for ‘he famous Illinois Athletic
Club. After being graduated from
the Chicago ¥. M. C. A. College
in 1929 with his Bachelor of
Thysical Education Degree, he did
oraduate work at the University
of Chicago. Later he became
swimming coach for the Chicago
Y. M. C. A, team, which won the
nstional Y. M. C. A. championshio
vnder his leadership.
Recognized as an authority in
the field of safety, Mr. Zubrod
has served as judge at state and
district first aig contests and has
conducteq first aid courses for
large industries, state organiza
tions and college, ‘as well as the
armed forces.

Address Meeting
ATLANTA, "April 17 — Initial
steps, leading to the develop
ment of Georgia’s ports as the
shipping centers of the South
east, will be taken at the inau
gural meeting of the State Ports
Development Association, to be
held in Macon, April 30.
Featured speaker at the one
day meeting will be E. O. Jew
ell, General Manager of the Port
of New Orleans, and one of the
South’s foremost ‘authorities on
world trade and port operations.
He will be introduced by Gener
al R. F. Fowler, Executive Di
rector State Potts Authority.
Mr. Jewell will discuss the
role State Owned Docks have
played in building New Orleans
into the second largest port in the
United States, and the necessity
of constructing modern, public
terminal facilities at Georgia’s
ports if they are to compete on
an equal footing with other states
in the contest for world trade.
Mr. Jewell assumed-the gener
al managership of the New Or
leans Port Commission in 1942,
and since that time has been ac
tive in the promotion of world
trade in the mid-continent &and
Gulf regions. &
In 1945 he founded the Gulf
Pnrts Association and became
its first president. The idea for
New Orleans’ famed Internation
al House was conceived by him
In 1943, and he is presently the
chairman of its ,Woer Trade De-
Vvelopment Committee and past
president of the American As
sociation of Port fiuthoxjties.
