other fine, interesting literature

At Meeting
| Chase Street P, T. A. held its
last meeting of this year at
which time new officers were in
stalled. The new president is
Mrs. Roswell David who has
been most active in P, T. A. for
a long time. The past year she
served as vice president and
previous to that was treasurer.
The other,officers are Mrs. Wil
liam D. Hicks, Ist vice president;
Mrs. Ralph Tabor, 2nd vice
president; Mrs. Hubert Bell, sec
retary; and Mrs. W. A. Camp
bell, treasurer. The installation
service was conducted by Mrs.
L. M. Shadgett, president of the
Clarke County Parent-Teachers
Council. |
The speaker for the afternoon
was Mr. Wayne Shields, head of
the recreation department for
the city of Athens. His*talk was
of special interest to mothers with
children for he outlined a most
interesting recreation program
for the summer. This program
will be presented in detail in an
article to appear soon so watch
the paper for further informa
tion.
Mrs. Escoe Shaw presented a
most enjoyable musical program.
The Mixed Chorus sang, “Who
Has Seen the Wind” and “The
World Is Waiting for the Sun
rise.”
In honor of Mother’s Day, six
girls from the 6th grade sang,
“That Wonderful Mother of
Mine.”
The Boy’s Choir sang, “Who is
Sylvia,” next was a vocal solo—
“The Lord’s Prayer” Laddie
Wigley; “Little David Play on
Your Harp,” Boy’s Choir with
Tommy Findley as soloist; and
“Ma Little Banjo.”
The program was concluded
with an interesting folk dance by
some members of Miss Clark’s
6th grade.
Mrs. Rowland announced that
a member of thé Athens recrea
tion department would be at
Chase Street school every Mon
day and Friday afternoons to
supervise play. The Ist and 2nd
graders will have from 1:30 to
2:30; the other grades from 2:30
to 4 o’clock.
In listening to the various re
ports and aeccomplishments for
the year it was revealed that
lease Street has 237 paid P-T.
A. members; has acquired a new
movie to aid in visual education;
two new rooms are being built
off thé north corridor; the school
grounds have been improved and
$150.00 worth of shrubbery has
been purchased; at the Music
Festival. held in Milledgeville,

and Laddie Wigley all received
No. 1 rating; in art at the Uni
versity where about 500 paint
ings were submitted, there were
60 selected to be sent on & four
of the State. Chase has five of
this 60.
At the end of the meeting Mrs.
Laßoone presented Mrs. William
Crane, retiring president, with a
lovely tray in appreciation of
the work she has done.
