ingham Palace were ready to
unfold today for Mrs. Mary Anne
Cushman, the tall, auburn-hair
ed daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Earl B. Braswell, of Athens, Ga.
The attractive former Geor
gian is the wife of Lt. Col. Ed
win P Cushman of Beacon Hill,
Mass.
The Cushmans were among
the American quota of 30 per
sons who received invitations to
the Palace party, the guests for
which were chosen from the
lower half of the diplomatic al
phabet.
Yesterday’s guests for the
first Palace summer party were
from the upper half of the dip
lomatic alphabet, ranking from
Afghanistan to Luxembourg.

umni Sociely has announced a
dante to be held on Saturday,
May 15, n honor of all 1948 Sen
iors. The dance will be held at
the Physical Education building
on Ag. Hill from 8 p. m until
midnigh.

For both Mrs. Cushman and
her husband, it was somewhat
of a homecoming. Mrs. Cushman
came to wartime London soon
after she graduated from the
University of Georgia, and be
fore her marriage, to work for
the United States Embassy.
Colonel Cushman was a mem
‘ber of General Eisenhower’s
force here Immediately after
the invasion of Normangdy in
June 1944, he left with the ad
vance section headquarters, was
attached to the U. S. First Army
Headquarters, and campaigned
through France, Belgium and
Germany,
The Cushmans plans to spend
a few days in Paris before re
turning to Berlin late next week.

To Meet Tuesday
The Athens Lseague of Women
Voters announces its third regu
lar luncheon meeting to be held
on Tuesday, May 18th, at the
Bamboo Room of the Y. W. C. A,
A luncheon for SI.OO will be
served at 12:30 p. m,, to be fol
lowed by a brief business session
and program on - recreation in
Athens. A movie, “Playtown U.
S. A, will be shown, followed
by pertinent comments by Mr.
Wayne Shields, City Director of
Recreation. The League’s Study
Group on Recreation will present
a report under the leadership of
Mrs. James Barrow. '
Reservations can be made by
calling Mrs. S. Grabb, 2395, or
Mrs. E. C. Getzman, 1242, by
Saturday morning if possible. All‘
members and interested citizens
of Athens and Clarke county are
urged to ‘attend.

just returned from Danbury,
Conn., where she attended a
meeting of thie Danbury League
and heard a ffull report by their

tion at Gramd Rapids, Mich. |
