Presumably going on a mar
ketting trip, Miss Lovern was led
to a shopping cart piled high
with attractive packages.
’ The entire group enjoyed with
her the opening and admiring of
the many useful, atiractive gifts.
The hostesses served refrech
'ments carrying out the green and
'white color scheme in the mints,
vily decorated cakes and mould
ed ice cream. A welcome gather
ing spot during the evening was
the table bearing a huge bowl
of icecold refreshing punch.
About fifty friends were pres
ent to enjoy the evening.

Mrs. Doris Gunter and Mrs.
Robbie Prince presided at the
punch bowl. The color scheme of
yellow and white was carried
out in the mints, cakes and
dainty sandwiches.
A musical program with vocal
numbers by Miss Lillie Pittard
and Miss Eloise Beckwith, with
Mrs. Jane Clary Montgomery at
the piano, and instrumental se
lections given by Mrs. Lois Beck
ett was very much enjoyed.
The entertaining rooms were
gardenlike with a profusion of
colorful flower arrangements.
Mrs. Crawford has not only
been a faithful worker in her
own Chapter but also in the dis
trict and state activities of the
Order. The presince of represen
tatives of many Chapters from
over the state was evidence of
the high esteem in which she is
held.
The, guest book kept by Mrs.
Inez Burch showed members of
fourteen different Chapters were
present.

Allen H. Briscoe, son of Mrs.
John C. Briscoe and of the late
John C. Briscoe of 171 Grady av
enue, Athens, Georgia, recently
accepted a position as manager
of the Neon department of the
Neon Sign Company of lowa City,
Towa
Allen was graduated from Ath
ens High School in 1944 and starr
ed on the varsity football squad
of that year. Whife in high school
he cttended the rank of Captain
in ithe ROTC unit and became
an instructor of first year stu
dents,
He enlisted in the U, S. Navy
January 22, 1944 and served in
the states and in the Marshall Is=
lands until his discarge on June
15, 1946. He attended the Univer
sity of Georgia and later became
associated with the Briscoe~
Doney Electric Company of this
city. He withdrew from the com
pany Ro afttend an advanced
school in Neon Theory and tube
bending at the Neon Institute in
Cincinnati, Ohio where he grad
uvated two weeks ahead of sched
we with a very high grade on his
exam.
Allen received many offers for
his services upon graduation and
accepted this position in lowa
City, home of the State Universi
ty which claims the largest stu
dent body in the country.
Mr. Briscoe is widely known
in this section of the state and
his many friends will be pleased
to learn of his advaneement.

attended the funeral of his
brother, T. Sgt. O. E. Jackson on
Saturday. 4R

Mr. and Mrs. Williem Eugene
Harden gnnounce the birth of a
daughter, W. Eugenia Anne, on
July 30, at St. Mary’s hospital.
Mrs. Harden is the former Miss
Evelyn Lowe.

elect is a graduate of Valdosta
High School. After serving in the
Army he entered the University
of Georgia from which he will
receive his BBA degree the latter
