ON THE AIR-WAVES
Alfredo Antonio conducts the
the Columbia Concert Orchestra
in a “Straw Hat Concert” of fav
orite melodies over WGAU-CBS
at 1:00 p. m. A favorite adven
ture story by a world-famous au
thor will be heard a half-hour
later, on your dial at 1340, when
“Tell It Again” adapts another
exciting drama for WGAU-CBS
listeners,
“Experiment In Living,” wide
ly hailed WGAU-CBS Documen
tary Unit production which re
enacted a unique group behavior
experiment conducted by social
scientists will be presented this
afternoon at 2:00 p. m. “Experi
ment”’ recreates an investigation
in which psychologists exposed
groups of ten-year-old boys to
contrasting ‘‘societies” in after
school recreation clubs, and an
alyzed their individual reactions
to autocratic, laissez-faire and
democratic procedures. !
Lyric soprano Marily = Cotlow,
is guest of baritone Earl Wright
sonson, star of the WGAU-CBS
“Family Hour” from 6:00 to 6:30
tonight. Miss Cotlow, a recent
Metropolitan auditions winner,
made her operatic debut in Los
Angeles where she took her oper=-
atic and dramatic training. As
her solo selection she will be
heard in Strauss’ ‘“Vgices of
Spring,” joining Wrightson in a
medley of songs from Cole Por
ter's operetta “Roberta.”
‘The popular rhythm famasy,
“Jamaican Rhuma” by Arthur
Benjamin, is on the musical
agenda for Percy Faith and his
orchestra on WGAU-CBS' “The
Pause That Refreshes,” from
6:30 to 7:00 this evening. Benja
min, a native of Australia, has
composed great quantities of mu
sic for symphony, string quartet
and choral groups. This particu
lar thumba has scored brilliant
ly, and has been compared to
Ravel's “Bolero.” Song-star Jane
Froman offers “P. S. I Love
You,” and “Penthouse Serenade.”
Radio’s favorite cowboy croo
ner sings “Be Honest With Me,”
&1t Happened In Monterey,”
“Ages and Ages Ago” and “Beau
tiful Dreamer” on the WGAU
CBS “Gene Autry Show,” aa 7:00
tonight. The Pinafores harmon
ize “Cimarron.”
~ From 7:30 to 8:00 p. m. to
night over WGAU—CBS, radio’s
best choice in northeast Georgia,
“Blondie Goes Shopping” and
inadvertantly buys herself a peck
of trouble at the department
store where Dagwood is sizing up
a remodeling job for his TNT™-
tempered boss, Mr. Dithers.
While Blondie and Mrs. Dithers
are shopping merrily in one part
of the store with $2,000 on be
half of the Woman’s Club, Dag
wood is busy getting himself ar
rested as an imposter and possi
ble burglar in another part of the
store. Merry complications ensue.
Another fabulous adventure of
“gam Spade” will be broadcast
at 8:00 p. m. this evening over
WGAU-CBS. Howard (Sam
Spade) Duff and Hans Conreid
are usually found on different
sides of the law (only on the
screen), but they have something
in common in real life. Both are
enthusiastic cat fanciers. Duff
remains faithful to the alley cat,
feeding every Tom, Dick and
Harry that happens along. Con
reid has a preference for Siam
ese cats—especially for the five
he owns. Duff recently called on
Conreid when he wanted advice

f On WGAU-CBS at 8:30 this
evening, greed rears its head to
hamper completion of a much
needed dam! This week’s excit=-
ing adventure takes “The Man
Called X” to the Meknog river in
Cochin-China to investigate a se
rics of “accidents” to an interna
tional dam project. Herbert Mar=-
shall, as the “Man Called X" is
faced with explosions, snake pits
and even murder, in his attempt
to stop the sabotage of a worthy
and wealthy venture. With the
aid of a simple Chinese girl, he
finds the clue necessary to con
vict a sophisticated American girl
of the various crimes. A special
musical background has been
prepared by Johnny Green for .
tonight’s performance. ‘
The bell and buzzer sound out
as contestants vie in speedy and
correct answers to questions of
emcee Bill Cullen in the WGAU
CBS quiz, “Winner Take All” at
9:00 this evening. Bill was mar
ried to thrush Carol Ames ten
days ago, as he continues his
iron man of radio schedule,
which include five different
sponsored shows a week. Ever
the jocular one with a fast quip,
Cullen remarked that “it was &
heck of a thing to get married
“Winner Take All' and ‘Give and
Take’' the next day.”

TUBERCULOSIS WEAKENED
BUT STILL DANGEROUS
NEW YORK-—(AP) — Tuber

1947, with a new low “for deaths
in the United States. Provisional
figures show 47,636 deaths, Miss

This, she says, is the first time
the country’s TB death toll has
been below 50,000. There were
50,911 deaths in 1946. Wrong
ideas about tuberculosis are one
reason the white plague bhasn’t
