Voices Opinion
In speaking on his subject of
“What a Fair Means To A Com
munity,” hé voiced the opinion,
“no one man ean produce a fair,
but many in this section of
Northeast Georgia will have to
pitch in.,” Talking along this line
he told the listeners that he
knows of nothing that goes into
the fair that someone in every
house isn’'t interested in.
In closing his speech he told
the people, “I'm sure you'll have
a most successfu] fair this year
and will makKe make Athens a
better community to live in
through the fair..”
President Winston ended the
evening program by stating,
“I've enjoyed working on the
fair, but no one man can put on
the fair. I'm sure I'll get plenty
of help from everyone.
Names Directors
He then named the Directors of
the fair association who are: W.
H. Benson, D. L. Branyon, W. E.
Cabaniss, Morton Hodgson, J. S.
Ivy, F. E, McHugh, 'l.. O. Price,
Malcom Rowe, W. A, Sams, sr.,
R. M. Snow, F. H. Williams, and
A. P. Winston.
He announced that $30,000 have
been subscribed to the fair and
$24,000 have been collected. He
stated that SIO,OOO more stock
needs to be sold. Also it was add
ed that no one man can buy more
than SI,OOO worth.
President Winston thanked
many people and organizations
for helping make the fair and
the fair grounds, which include
47, acres a success so far.

members of the State Legislature
in the various surrounding coun

business men were contacted by
him and others and all were en

selfishly gave it their support.
A meeting subsequently was
held here with Commissiner
Linder at which time he agreed
to Athens as the site for the pro
posed market when a Suitable lo
cation was offered the State.
Mr. Linder inspected a number
of proposed sites for the Market
and selected the one on the new
Atlanta highway as being best
suited to the purpose and the on
ly one he visited that he would
approve.
Mayor Wells then called on the
Jaycees to take over the task of
raising the needed money and
the campaign was launched.

Pointing to the success of the

that it will not only bring visitors
to Athens from all of Northeast
