Shop
We are making three different
projects in shop. Some of the boys
are on ‘their third project. Dean
!l Williams, Ben Bailey and several
lothers., The first project was a
sewing tray. The second was a
metal tray, now we are making
what-nots.
We have a seven period day
every Wednesday and ‘Coach De-
T.aPerriere lets us go out and
play football. We are divided into
two teams. Jimmy Hill and Char
lie Marlowe are the captains. We
defated Charles Marlowe's team
last week six to nothing on a
guarterback sneak,
We saw a picture show on plan
ning things we like to make. It
was very intertaining.

our nine weeks English exam last
Thursday. The exam was a re-i

their time to make it a success.

Room Five’s social studies class
;has just completed the study of
‘the states formed from the Mexi
can territory., From the pictures
we saw on these states. We got
a general idea of the most inter
esting places,
- Friday, October 29, we elected
new officers for our club. They
were elected for the month of No
vember. For president, Tommy
Tillman, vice-president, Fain S,
Slaughter and for secretary Vir
ginia Johnson. We know they will
make good officers.
We are glad to have Edwin Mc-
Daniel back in school after a week
of illness.

Room Six
The eight weeks of school is
rolling by and we have finished
another chapter in Science and
are ready for our exams Tuesday.
The ‘P. T. A. gave us a Hallo
we’en party Friday night from 6:30
’till 8:30, including a grab bag,
country store, bobbing apples,
house of horrors, ‘fortune telling
and everything that goes with it.
We are looking forward to hav
ing our parents wvisit us next
Tuesday. If they want to they
can stall all day.
We had a very nice holiday Fri
day, going to the mountains and
all the trips we made since we
had an extra day for trips.

We had a holiday Friday. The
teachers went to a G. E. A. meet
ing.
We are going to select our elec
tives Wednesday.
Junior High as well as Senior
High is having their quarterly
examinations.
Wednesday we had a movie in
Social Studies. The picture was
“Flatboat of the Frontier.”

We have been studying for our
quarterly test in room eight. We
have been studying about govern
ment. Mr. Myers has required
every subject have quarterly tests.
Everybody in our room has en
joyed listening to the news every
morning. This week the news has
been mostly about the presidential
election.
Our Hallowe’én party was a big
success Friday night. .

On Friday night, October 29,
Junior High had a Hallowe’en
carnival and some of the girls in
Room Ten helped with it. They
were Nancy Strother, Vivian
Baird, and Marion Chandler.
We are glad to have Allen Ecker
back who was absent several days.
For the first time in a long
time the schools of Athens are
having “hine-weeks exams. Ours
started Wednesday and will go
through Tuesday.
Everyone is happy because the
teachers had to go to a nreeting
on' Friday and we had a holiday.

play volley ball and kick ball.

Having Many
9-Weeks Tests
s Kindergarten
We have already started talking
about Thanksgiving, That ineans
we are singing turkey songs and
playing turkey games. Our bulle
tin board is covered with pump
kins and turkeys.
We still have many pretty flow
ers in our room. Those who have
brought flowers recently are
Freddy Prickett, Ann Yarbrough,
and Joyce vans. George Finger
brough some pretty leaves.
Nancy Harris and Connie Glenn
brought their records to school.
We always like to listen to rec
ords,
We are glad that Johnny Draper,
Johnny L.ong, and Richard Gerdon
are back at school. We have been
missing Donald Collinsworth, Jim
my Fields, Micsey Lopez, Chez
Holland, Judy Perkins, Rea
Rhodes, and Judy Woods.
Miss Hancock’s Class
We still like schoeol very much
even though we have to work hard
some time, :
Most of us have finished our
first book and have it at home to
read to mother and father. Mon
day we will get a new reading
book and a new work book, too.
We had a wonderful time at our
Hallowe’en party. We are thank
ful to our parents, teachers and
other friends for working so hard
to make our party suen a big suc
cess, We are glad the P. T, A.
made more than $600.00 on the
party. They can get lots of nice
things for our school with all that
money.
The day before Hallowe’en was
Gayle Davis’ birthday. She chose
Charles Elder for her king. We
drew a birthday cake on the board
for her.
Ronald Hanson, Tommy Howell,
Ernest Looney, Edward Shelton
and Elizabeth Paris all have birth
days in November. Ernest chose
Patsy Wortham for his queen last
Thursday. We wonder who the
others will chogse for their queen
or king.
We are all learning the 100th
Psalm. Some of us are studying
it at home.
H. J. Tolbert has been out sick.
We miss him and hope he will
come back soon.
We like to study about the Pil
grims and Indians and the first
Thanksgiving. Our room is all
decorated for Thanksgiving. We
had fun coloring the pictures and
putting them up. We like the art
we have with Mrs. Rowland every
Thursday, too.
The rainy days were lots of fun.
We made things with our clay and
played games in the house.
Msr. Pinkston’s Second Grade
Our Hallowe’en Party was so
much fun. Everyone had such a
good time,
We have begun learning some
Thaunksgiving. songs. We like to
sing these nice, new songs. Learn
ing new songs is always so much
fun,
Sonny Cooper is back in school.
We missed him while he was sick,
We have made some pretty fold
ers so keep our November papers
in. Every one drew a Thanksgiv
ing picture on the folder. We like
to keep these folders and take
them home to our parents every
month. !

We have had good attendance

| Jimmy Carlisle had a birthday
| party at school Wednesday. He
served us delicious cookies and ice

'| Luther Nolan’s mother brought
jus a large fish bowl Tuesday, and
we are enjoying watching the fish
{swim around.
| Mr. Moseman, Jackie Hardman’s
grandfather brought beautiful
dahlias for the boys and girls to
enjoy. Others bringing flowers
were: Jimmy Cofer, Patty Tucker,
{Mildred McDaniel, Bobby Hunt,
|Phil Hames, Sara Nelle Matthews,
Betty Sims and Kathy Worrell.

Mrs. Rowland, our art teacher
chose some of our water color
pictures from our room to place on
display for the art exhibit Thurs
day.
Many boys and girls are doing
'nice work in spelling and arithme
tic.

The children in our room who
have climbed to the top of the
number speed tests ladder are
Glenda Watson, Virginia Gurley,
Ann Rogers, Mary Frances Lester,
Mary Ann Stephenson, Barbara
Huff, and Claire Allgood. There
are fifteen more in the class on
the last group. .‘
Amanda Matthews’ father came
to see us yesterday. We were glad
to have him, .
Our class is filling Red Cross
boxes. We are filling one for a
boy and one for a girl. We are
glad to do this for children of
other countries wiio do noi have
as much as we have.
. Barbara Huff brought the room
‘a beautiful Cherokee Rose. Mrs.
‘Tabor told us the lL.egend of the
Cherokee Rose. It is our state
tlower.
Each table made a health chart
to illustrate the six things we
have in health inspection.
This year we are beginning tests
every nine weeks. We will have
our first anes next week,
Mrs. Laßoon’s Class
We are sorry Jimmy Allman
has been sick for nearly three
weeks. He had an infected leg.
Silas Reid has mumps.
We are busy this week getting
ready for our Hobby Show next
week. We . have made posters
[showing all the things we have
learned in this unit. We cut let
ters to make our Hobby Books
for all of our English papers.
Mrs., Eberhart brought a lovely
pot of flowers for our room.
! Mrs. Ison’s Class
The first quarter of school is al
most gone. We are working hard to
imnrove in all of our studies.
The two teams in our room. The
Reds and the Blues have had
spelling matches and at the pre
sent, it is a tie.
We keep up with the news,
reading the Weekly Reader, our
school newspaper. The Chase
Street football team is practicing
to play the Demonstration School
football team.
We are learning many beautiful
songs. Some we like are: “Lovely
Messengers,” by Mendelssohn,
“The Brooklet,”” by Schubert;
“Lovely Meadows,” a Czech Folk
Song; “At the Gate of Heaven,” a
melody from New Mexico, origi
lnally from Spain. These are two
part songs.
The Hallowe’en party was a big
success. The sixth grades put on
two Folk Dances in the floor show.
‘We also had two folk dances for
the P. T. A. Thursday.
