I WANT TO BE A TOOL
FOR THE PEOPLE OF
THE FIFTH WARD
It is my wish that the citizens of the sth Ward
use me as a tool in furtherance of the develop
ment of the ward if, and when | am elected
councilman on November 17th. '
| have outlined in a letter to each of the reg
istered voters of the sth Ward how | intend to 1
be used as a tool in furtherance of the interesis |
of the people residing in the ward.
Never before have | offered my services for
public office. | do so at this time because it is my
belief that the best interests of the sth Ward lay
in the election of a candidate who will strive to ‘
the best of his ability to carry out the wishes of
ward citizens AFTER being directed by them.

Athens Girl Scouts Buy
Juliette Low Stamps Here
Senior Girl Scout JoanL Hudson receives from Postmaster
Myers a sheet of Juliette Low stamps, Intermidate Scout Bevetly
Hammond of Troop 4 and Brownie Margaret Little of Troop 34
visited the postmaster with Joan. !
. Georgia has been signally honored within the past ien days in
having memorial stamps issued by the United States Govern
ment to honor two of its citizens, bcth women of Q’fl: state, the
“Poppy Lady” and Juliette Low, the founder of Girl Scouting
in America. i :
The Juliette Low stamp was first placed eon sale October 29 in
Savannah, the home of Mrs. Low, and the city in which she
organized in 1912 the first Girl Sccut troop in this country. Its
introduction was thus planned to coincide with Girl Scout Week,
annually celebrated at the end of October.
Athens Girl Scouts and their leaders were notified by Mrs, W.
W. Deßenne, local Juliette Low chairman, as soon as the stamps
were available here, sc that girls might go in groups ‘and as in
dividuals to purchase the new stamps for use on their letters and
in their albums. The postuffice reports that its supply is now
practically exhausted.
