African Violets
Sent To Linwood
Hospital, Augusta
Twenty pots of African violets
were given to the Ladies’ Garden
Club by Mrs. D. L. Earnest for dis
tribution as the club thought best.
This most general offer was
made to Mrs. Cosby Dawson when
she phoned Mrs. Earnest asking
how many African violet plants
sho would put on display at the
African Violet Show, of which
Mrs. Dawson was chairman.
It was suggested by another
club member that these plants be
taken to Mrs. Graig Orr, at the
Red Cross Headquarters, and ask
her to send them to the Veterans’
Hospital, “Linwood” in Augusta.
Mr. Barry Fleming, noted
Southern artist of Augusta very
kindly carried the violets to the
hospital in Augusta.
Part of the treatment for these
mentally sick soldiers is garden
ing. It has been said that African
violets are favorite flowers in the
men’s wards.
However, these disabled soldiers
have outdoor flower and vegeta
ble gardens. So if you have even
a few vegetable or flower seeds
left over, annual and perennial
plants, shrubs or small flowing
trees and you wish to help these
men for whom the war is not over,
take them to Mrs. Orr or cail her
and let her know about them.
MRS. MADISON NICHOLSON,
Fresident of the Ladies Garden
Club.
