Dog Poisoners
Should Beware
Of Penalties
BY JEANNE WILSON BUTLER
. With the recent renewed activ
fties of dog-poisoners in Athens,
a word of advice to ‘dog-owners
as to their rights might be help
ful.
The Will Judy Foundation has
a standing -anti-poisoner award,
which pays SSO to any person or
persons who are instrumental in
securfng court convictions of dog
poisoners. Mr. L. F. Moore, of
San Antonio, Texas, won this
award in Case No. 75666, tried in
Bexar county, Texas, August 20,
1946, before Judge Charles Mat
thews. Mrs. L. Mowers was the
defendant and pleaded not guilty,
ibut on hearing the case, the jury
found her gullty and fined her
$l5O and costs.
~ Another case occurred in San
Saba, Texas. Stafford Gage was
sent a check for SSO when he
filed a complaint against Shelley
Lewis for poisoning a dog. The
trial was held in the Justice
Court of San Saba. It appears
that the citizens of Texas give
more than lip service when it
comes to dog-poisoners. They get
out and do something about it.
All pertinent information con
cerning the Will Judy reward is
printed on posters sent free of
charge for posting in neighbor
hoods.
If a man has a car that iz so
noisy because of cut-out or other
faults that it becomes a neigh
borhood nuisance, his neighbor
does not have the right to get out
and hack it to pieces. Neither
does one poison a neighbor’s
child because he has damaged
property.
Speaking of humane treatment
of pets:
James H. Cruaikshank, who hsas
