Vote Control
Charged As
Talmadge Aim
ATLANTA, Jan. 15—(AP)—The
Georgia League of Women Voters
charged Saturday that legislation
proposed by Governor Herman
Talmadge to revise Georgia elec
tion laws would bring about “a
controllable elective process.”
Miss Johnnie Hilbun of Augusta,
state president,” issued the follow
ing statement on the proposed leg
islation: ‘
“For more than a quarter of a
century the League of Women Vot~
ers in Georgia has worked to per
fect the machinery through which
the citizens of this state exercise
their democratic right of self-gov
ernment. During these years we
have seen many such safeguards
enacted into law.
“It is with deep concern and
alarm that we now witness the in
troduction of legislation into the
Georgia Legislature which would
in effect largely wipe out these
gains and bring about a controlla
ble elective process.
