Room Piano
Is Paid For
Miss Clark’s Class |
Our school Valentine Party was
quite a success. Most every one
in our room had a part in one of
the floor shows. The boys did a
dance by themselves and the girls
did one separately, and there was
one together. 1
Jerry Hill sold comics for the
party and made $8.19. Many of
our pupils brought candy, cakes,
and pies to sell, also groceries for
the “Country Store” and the ba
zaar.
We are happy to announce that
our piano has been paid for. It
has been so nice to have one in our
room. This week different pupils
havé played for us every day.
Some of them know pieces by
musicians we have studied re
cently. .
Miss Clark talked to us about
John B. Gordon and we have been
finding out all we can about him,
The author of a.new biography on
Gordon visited our room and
showed us pictures of him and
told many interesting things about
his life we did not know.
We are learning how to change
decimals to fractions and work
problems the shortest way.
‘ Mary Montgomery gave us an
interesting talk-on her recent trip
to Texas and Mexico. We enjoy
ed seeing the cards and souvenirs
she brought back.
Hiram and Ann brought some
lovely flowers for our room.
We had two Valentine surprises.
Miss Clark served us ice cream
and Mrs. Hill gave us candy hearts.
Thanks to both of them.
Kindergarten |
We all had such a good time at
the Valentine Carnival. Some of
us were on the floor show. It was
fun giving and receiving Valen
tines on Valentine Day. Carey
Almand had a birthday Tuesday,
and he chose Catherine Boddie for
his birthday queen.
We have been missing Melanie
Anderson, Rita Caldwell, Ann
Yarbrough, Patty Burns, Jenese
Fortson, Virginia Ann Wansley,
Donald Collingsworth, and Billy
Sutton. We are glad to have Ben
ny Hugh Williams, Mickey Lopez,
George Finger, and Rea Rhodes
lback at school.
| Miss Wilhite’s Room
We had a good time on Monday
giving out Valentines and read
ing them. Most of them said “T
Love You.”
Our weekly reader was so ine
teresting. We learned about ma
ple sirup. v
We like our new library books
and can read some of them.
We enjoy the story about the
“Bobbsey Twins.” They have such
nice manners. We are going to
try to be like them. .
Miss Hancock has been sick and
we have missed her. We hope she
will soon be back.
| Mrs. Tragesser’s Class
We are having so much fun with
our numbers. We are adding dou
ble numbers now.
We have a new girl in our room.
She is Anita Butler. We are so
glad to have her with us.
We are learning about measures.
We have learned about one quart,
one gallon and pints. We have
dfound that two pints make a
quart. We all have quarts of
milk at home. This helped us to
know what a quart is.
Mrs. Dickerson’s Class
We like the stories we wrote
this week. We wrote about many
interesting subjects that we se
lected. The picture that we drew
to illustrate our story was very
colorful and we showed our pic
tures and read some of our stories
to Miss Clark’s sixth grade.
Kathy Worrell has mumps. We
will be glad when she is well
enough to be with us again.
Jack Harris brought some beau
tiful yellow flowers for our room
to enjoy. Jackie Hardman brought
a pot plant that we are enjoying.
Cur art teacher, Mrs. Jack Row
land, liked the pictures we drew
last week. Some of our pictures
are in the hall for other boys and
girls to enjoy.
Everyone had a nice time at the
Valentine party. Many took part
in the floor show and enjoyed the
folk dances, the songs and the flute
numbers.
1 We like for our mothers to
visit us. Mrs. Karl visited our
flute class recently and Mrs. Har
‘ris came one afternoon. Mrs. Mat
thews made our class an attractive
Valenine box, and then she and
Mrs. Nolan came Monday and sur
prised us with valentine refresh
ments.
We are working hard on spell
ing. Many of the papers are neat
and correct.
| Mrs. Rowland’s Class
Last Friday the school had a
Valentine Party. We had drinks
and hot dogs, hamburgers, candied
apples and cake and many other
things. We had a puppet show
and two floor shows. In one we
had songs and dances and in the
other we had a band, acrobat and
other things. A lot of people came
to. the party.
In English we are learning more
about dictionaries. We have a
lot of fun using them, |

Owners of the 1949 Cadillac are going to get a pleasant sur
prise when they take it out for that first cross-country run.
Without any extra effort whatsoever, they are going to wind
up that first day’s touring about a hundred miles farther
from home than they expected to be! For here, beyond any
doubt, is the greatest “mile-eater” that ever rolled over a
highway. We are not talking about excessive speed—because,
regardless of the power they have at their command, sensible
people observe the laws of the road and the rules of safety.
But the 1949 Cadillac is so cat-quick and eager—so smooth

of distance inside the safe and legal limits. You take the hills
as fast as the level stretches—you make the first hundred
yards #Wway from a stop light as fast as you make the second
