Held Wednesday
At Barrow School
A group of sixth grade mothers,
teachers and many visitors met on
Wednesday afetrnoen, May 25, at
’Barrow School to climax the four
| weeks period of home reading on‘
| “Boy and Girl Relationship.”
The Oregon film on “Human
Growth” was secured from the
State Health Department by Dr.
IW. W. Brown and was shown
proving very helpful to those
present.
Dr. Pauline Park Wilson, Dean
of the School of Home Economics
at the University of Georgia, a
member of the Board of Directors
of the National Council of Family
Relations, lead the group in a
discussion. Many thought provok
! ing questions were asked and very
| helpful information was given by
| Dr. Wilson.
! Mrs. Walter Strange, children’s
l librarian from the Athens Re
| gional Library was present with
ibooks on the sixth grade reading
| level which could be secured and
| given for summer reading.
| The Study course has been and
|will be quite valuable to those
participating.

On June 24, Mr. and Mrs. Arn
old Allen Sr. will entertain at the
rehearsal supper. Following the
ceremony, the bride’s parents will
entertain at a reception for the
wedding guests at 454 West Mer
cer ave., in College Park.

Club Met With
Mrs. Marlowe
The Holly Heights Home Dem
onstration Club held its May meet
ing in the home of Mrs. H. A, Mar
lowe. The president opened the
meeting with the singing of,
“America,” by the group. Mrs. J.
C. Sorrells gave the devotional,
reading the 52nd Psalm. She also
recad a poem and <ciosed with
prayer.
Mrs. S. H. Butler, home im
provement chairman, and Mrs. W.
C. Kinney had charge of the pro
gram. Both gave interesting and
helpful points on these topics.
Mrs. Smith, Home Demonstra
tion Agent, was then presented
and- gave a demonstration on
“How to Choose Toys for Chil
dren,” so as to have well-balanced
play equipment. She also held a
discussion on happy family lile
in the home we have and what we
can do to make more desirable sit
uations,
Mrs. Mattie Wilriams, Miss
Ruth Williams and Mris. Lester
were visitors. "
At the close of the meeting the
hostess served strawberry ice
cream and cake.

Miss Virginia Wigginton, daugh
ter of Mrs. Ellsworth H. Wigginton
of Athens, was mairied Saturday
to Dr. William T. Smyth in the
First Presbyterian Church. The
Reverend Eugene L. Hill perform
ed the ceremony.
The bridegroom is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Harold M. Smyth of
Pottsville, Pa.
Escorted by her brother, Mr.
Brooks Wigginton, the bride had
her sister, Mrs. Henry D. Hoyt of
Coral Gables, Fla. for her matron
of honor.
Burd E. Smyth of Bethlehem,
Pa., was best man for his brother.
A reception was held at the home
of Mr. Brooks Wigginton following
the ceremony.
Dr. and Mrs. Smyth will make
their home in lowa City, lowa on
their return from a wedding trip
to the Central Rockies.
The bride is a graduate of Ohio
State University. Dr. Smyth studi
ed at Hamilton College and at the
University of Pennsylvania School
of Medicine. He was recently re
leased from active duty with the
Medical Corps of the U. S. Navy.

As the state meeting of the
Children of the Confederacy is
meeting in Athens, with head
quarters at thé Georgian Hotel,
on Saturday, June 11th, this will
be a very important meeting, as
duties of the hostess Chapter will
be assigned at this time.
