European Headquarters in Heidel
berg, Germany.
Mr. Barnes graduated from
Athens High School in June of
1948 and entered the service the
following September. He re
ceived his basic training at Fort
Jackson, S. C., and was trans
ferred to Germany in December.
Before entering the service he
was employed with the S. H. Kress
Company in Athens.

Half Wits Held Spring Formal Friday
Evening At YWCA Gym On Hancock Ave.
Colorful balloons and crepe
paper streamers canopied the fu
ture belles and beaux of Athens,
as they danced Friday night in
the Y. W. C. A. gym. The occas
ion being the Half Wit social
club’s last dance of the year. The
dance was declared most success
ful, and was highlighted with the
opening dance which was the
leadout, with President Paula
Bernstein and her date, Frank

which was so good everyonel
came back for more. The punchi

lent by Mrs. Jake Bernstein and
Mrs. John Thurmond. The punch
bowls were Iloaned by - Norris
Hardware Company.
Parents and {riends dropped in
to see the lovely party (to the
delight of the dancers) and the
Half Wits were grateful for the
chaperonage of Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Gannon, Mrs. Jake Bern
stein, Mrs. H. G. Byrd, Mrs.
Lloyd Messer and Mrs. John
Thurmond.
