BAR-BE-CUE
The local camp of Winter
ville WOW will sponsor a bar
becue on Wednesday, July 13,
from 12 until 2 p. m., assisted
by members of the PTA and
Civitan Club. The barbecue
will be hald in the Winterville
Community Park. Entire pro
ceeds to go for seats for the
auditorium, The menu will in
clude delicious barbecue,
homemdde salads, pickles and
pies. The public is cordially in
vited.
CANNING NOTICE
The Danielsville canning
plant will be open on Wednes
days of each week, beginning
Jume 29, 1949, wuntil further

Engagement Of Miss West
And Mr. JR. Paul Announced
Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Warren, of
the Lexington Road, announce the
birth of a son, Robert Michael, on
June 25 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Mrs. Warren is the former Miss
Doris Wheeler.

lie Bannon are at home after a
visit in Ponte Vedra, Fla. with Mr.
and Mrs. Bannon Jones who have
a cottage there.

Dr. and Mrs. Pope Holliday, jr.
and children, Joe and Tommy of
Boston, Mass., arrived today to
visit their parents Col. and Mrs.
Pope Holliday on Woodlawn. Dr.
Holliday leaves after a few days
for Nashville, ®'enn., to complete
plans to finish his studies in pe
diatrics at Vanderbilt Hospital. He
will return for his family later in
July.
Athens Girl Scout
Summer Camp And
Program Planned
An exciting, adventurous month
of July is the plan for Athens Girl
Scouts—for troops and individual
Intermediates and Brownies. The
first week’s schedule is as follows:
July 4—Day at Camp; July 5-6
—Overnight at Camp; July 7—All
day trip to Washington, Ga. to see
early Georgia history. Picnic lunch
on Kettle Creek. Bring lunch, 10
cents for drings, 25 cents for trans
portation. July B——Day at Camp.
For the Day-at-Camp Days,
Scoutabout will leave from the
front entrance of Gallant-Belk’s on
Clayton Street at 9:30 a. m., re
turning at 5:30 p. m. Troops and
leaders will be able to spend the
day cooking out or picnicking, ex
ploring or doing handcraft. Mrs.
Dorothy Shutt, executive director
of Girl Scouts in Athens, will be
at the camp during camp days and
overnights to help with leadership
and handcraft activities.
For Overnight at Camp, Scout
about leaves from Gallant-Belk’s
at 10:00 a. m. Tuesday, July 5 and
turns at 4:00 p. m. Wednesday,
:fily 6. Girl scouts are requested
to bring nose bag for lunch on
Tuesday and 60 cents for food for
the other three meals. Two blan
kets and toilet articles are also
necessary, a pocket knife and
flashlight are highly desirable.
For the All-Day Trip to Wash
ington, Ga., the girls should meet
at Gallant-Belk’s front entrance at
8:00 a. m. with their own noon
lunch, money to buy themselves
cold drinks or ice cream, transpor
tation money, and written permis
sion slips from their parents.
Returns will be made before
dark if possible, but if not, girls
will be taken to their own homes
upon arrival.

Reservations for all these events
must be either mailed before Sat
urday, July 2 to Mrs. Dorothy
Shutt, P. O. Box 903 or phoned to
the Scout office, Phone 3016, on
Saturday, July 2, 1949, between 9
a. m. and 12 noon.

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—Dr. and
Mrs. Bryan Clinton West, of Kins
ton, N. C., announce the engage
ment of their daughter, Margaret
Hunt West, to John Robertson
Paul of Winter Haven, Fla. The
wedding will take place an August
6, in Kinston.
Miss West received her training
from Kinston High School, Chapel
Hill and Winston Salem. For the
past year and a half she has been
a member of the faculty of the
Winter Haven City Schools.
Mr. Paul is well known in Ath
ens, having visited her many times.
His mother, the former Louise
Cheney, spent her girlhood in Ath
ens where her parents resided. He
is the nephew of Miss Laura Elder
and Mr. Charles Elder.

pressed in and sel, he says, by
using a puff lightly dusted with
plain talcum powder.
