Lindbergh Is Not Likely To
Release the Story of His Life
| By ERSKINE JOHNSON |
NEA Staff Correspondent |
HOLLYWOOD ——(NEA)— Twoi
studios are after Charles Lind
bergh for his life story. I'm will
ing to bet right now that he never:
‘gives his approval. The Lind
berghs ;ust bought a lodge at As
_pen, C 010.,, where they’ll be neigh
bors of the G:.n’y‘Co:pers.
. George Jessel had dinner in
Houston with Glenn MecCarthy,
Jesse Jones and Roy Cullen. The
threesome is worth about four
hundred million dollars. “It was
very impressive,” George told me.
“The four of us were worth four
hundred mlilion and sixty dol
lars.”

Buddy Baer is “The Working
Girls’ Clark Gable—because there
is more of him to love.” Four hun~
dred drive-in theater girl em
ployes just voted him the title.
Baer took it modestly. “I guess,”
he said, “it was because of my big
| ears.” .
I see the girls’ point. The guy is
handsome. In fact, he was too
handsome for a gangster role in a
UI movie. They said he could have
‘the role if he shaved off his mus
tache, broke his nose and acquired
2 cauliflower ear. Baer said no
thanks. But he’s still amazed.

RISING YOUNG AUTHOR—Thirteen-year-old Egon von Asow,
a high school pupil in Berlin’s British Zone, seems like any average
schoolboy as he plays with bis toy railway. But don’'t let it fool
you. Despite his youth, Egon is a well-known author. He's already
written one book, on the philosophy of Goethe, and is hard al work
on a second velume,
singing sensation. He's taking
warbling seriously with X-ray
gerutiny by "Herbert Wall, who
coached Nelson Eddy. Like his
parody on “Buttons and Bows.”
It goes: .
“East or west let the fight game
rest,
“Because I'm tired of taking
blows. y

“I'd rather sing in smart cases
with swell floor shows, *
“While T've still got my buttons

“The White Tower” company is

for her release from her Selznick
contract five months ago but was
turned down. She's still asking.

working on an idea . . . A trade
paper ran a photograph of Howard
Dimsdale, who wrote “Kiss for
Corliss.” But the caption and the
| story that followed was all about
Richard Wallace, who directed the
film. Dimsdale wired Wallace:
“Sue your plastic surgeon. You
now look just like me.”
