Military Institute in 1047,
He served in the Army three
vyears, being commissioned in the
Armored Force at Fort Knox,
Kentucky, assigned to the 87th In
fantry Division. Mr. Watt saw ac
tive service in both ‘he European
and the Pacific theaters of war.

on princess lines, the bracelet

wide skirt ended in a long train,
and a panel of lace down the front
extended arcund the train. Her
tiered veil of tulle, which was
fashioned to her head with a cor
onet of orange blossoms and seed
pearls worn by her wmother, the
former Ethel Butner, of Powder
Springs, at her wedding. Her bou
quet was a spray cf white orchids.
Mr. and Mrs. Florence enter
tained at a reception after the
wedding at their home cn College
Street. Later in the cvening the

Junior Y-Teens Get Report
On Trip To Guatemala City
The Junior Y-Teens were en
tered by Miss Vicky Butler at
their meeting Wednesday after
noon. Miss Butler gave a graphic
and thrilling account of her re
cent visit to Guatemala, Central
America. She wore a native ros
tume which added color to her
narration. :
Miss Butler described the his
toric Republic as the “land of
eternal spring”. Flowers bloom all
the year round with a richness of
color and beauty that is unsur
passed.
She told them her thrilling

tour to the Highlands to visit
Lake Atatlan and the three tows=
ering volcanoes there, Atatlan,
San Lucas Toliman and San Pe
dro. She said all three volecanoes
were extinct except Atatlan and
that has shown no activity for al-
escing at the home of Mrs. Down
ing’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H.

PTA Council
Names Committees
The first executive meeting for
the new year of the Athens Clarke
County P. T. A. Council was held
in the Y. W. C. A. home, Tuesday,
Sept. 27th, at ten a. m.
Mrs. William Crane, the Coun
cil’s new president, presided. The
twelve schools making up the
Council were well represented and
Mrs. Crane expressed her appre=
ciation for the good attendance.

Miss Bufler said she was im=
pressed by the friendliness of the
people, and also of the moderness
of Guatemala City. There the
buildings are modern, there are
beautiful parks and impressive
public buildings, while only a few
hours away she found gleanring
white-walled villages where col
orful, pure-blooded Indians carry
on their daily lives with much the
same tradition as their Mayan
Ancestors. i
The market places teem with
Indians in brilliantly colored tri
bal costumes ,and inithese mar
kets are the beautiful hand woven
textiles which are world-famed.
In Antigua, the old Spanish
capital she found maginificent
ruing of old buildings. In far*
Cuatemala itself gives one a
glimpse of the past, she said, -the
