LOVE IN BLOOM (HIPPO STYLE)—After 383 hours of flirting and nose-rubbing through sep
arating barriers, “Knautschke” finally gets close enough to his lady-friend, “Grete,” to engage in a
Mittle smooching . (hippopatamus style). The two light-hearted hippos became acquainted at their /
aslual home in the Berlin Zoo after “Grete” was imported from Leipzig in Germany's Soviet Zone,

- Serving Notices
Area Rent Director Harold T.
Robertson yesterday oescribed a
streamtined method by which
landlords and tenants will serve
notice en each other whenever
one seeks & rent office action that
will affect the other adversely.
Mr. Robertson emphasized that
the serving of notices is a neces
sary part of any action which his
office gave notice to the opposing
v tenant. The law requires that
interested parties in any proceed
ing before the rent >ffice receive
proper notice. Previously the rent
offic gave notice to the opposing
party after it had received the
request The new method saves
time by allowing notice to be giv
en before & request is filed, rath
er than afler filing.
To show how the new method
works, the rent director outlined
the steps to be taken by a land
lord in applying for a rent in
crease. When the landlord obtains
the petition form at the rent of
fice, he will also get instructions
and necessary forms o be used in
serving notice on the tenants who
are affected. |
After preparing his petition, the ‘
landlord must serve a copy of his
petition and any other evidence
relating to the petition, on his
tenant personally or by mailing.
After doing this he can file two
copies of the petition and origin
al documents at the rent office.l
together with proof that he has
notified the tenant.
1f the tenant wants to oppose
the landlord’s petition, he can file
answer within seven days. In this
case, the tenant will muil or de
liver a copy of the answer to the
iandiorst first, before {iling the
original and another copy of his
answer at the rent offic2, together
with proof that he has given a
copy of hit answer to the land
lord.
Another method of giving no
tice is permitted when the action
nffects five or more tenants. In
stead of delivering a copy of his
petition personally to each ten
ant, the landlord can post a copy
in a public place on the premises,
such as a common entrance.
The rent office will give him
forms touse in notifying the ten
ants of the posting which must
remain up for 15 days. The ten
ants, however, must file their
answers to the landlord’s petition
within seven days of the land
lord’s notice and serve a copy of
the answer on the landlord per- |
i sonaily or by mailing |
The same procedure is followed i
when & tenent applies for a rent
reduction, ¢r the landlord seeks
an evichon certificate or decon
trol of a llving unit created by a
conversion

Girdle Guides
For Teen-Agers
By ALICIA HART
NEA Staff Writer
Next best to having been born
with a perfect figure are a good
girdle and bra which can slim a
girl to Miss America’'s propor
tions. ¢
Teen-agers out shopping for
just such undergarments mustn’t
let an array of fancy beribboned
edges, glamorous colors and trick
fastening carry them away too
far from the plain down-to-earth
requirements of a good girdle and
bra.
Comfort should be your guide.
Try on the bra and girdle and
walk, sit, stand and bend in the
undergarments before you decide.
A bra and girdle which do a
proper job mustn't constrict or
bind the figure. The teen-age
waistline and hipline must be
molded gently. This means no
stays, solid panels or heavy bon
ing. A pantie or regular two-way
stretch should give the kind of
easy control that an active school
girl needs.
When bra sizes have you baf
fled, remember that size, 34, 36,
ete.,, refers to the “around the
body” measurement, while cup
size refers to the depth of the bra
“pocket.” For the junior figure a
bandeaux bra is usually best. This
is the bra that has no banding be
neath the bustline. @
Once the bras and girdles are
bought you'll get better wear and
better slimming service if you
wash and change undergarments
regularly. After washing and
rinsing in lukewarm water, re-
