LONG BEACH, Calif.—(AP)—
Mrs. Etta Mae Timm of Long
Beach says her son holds the dis
tinction of being the only person
to knock President Theodore Roos
evelt’s hat off—and get away with
it. It happened at a pared in San
Francisco in 1905, Mrs. Timm and
her boy, Edward A. Howard, now
a 47-year-old iron works employe
in Corpus Christi, Tex., were lo
cated strategically on a curb.
The great Teddy came abreast,
smiling and flourishing his cane.
Two-year-old Eddie. waving back
with his own cane, gayly whacked
the President’s silk topper into the
street. A Secret Service man hast
ily retrieved it.
“The President was nice about
it,” Mrs. Timm recalls. ‘He just
grinned and shook a finger at Ed
die who grinned right back. But
was I embarrassed!”
