Shown above are Jane Thornton, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. James Thornton, and Sally Jones, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Bannon Jones. They will do a snowflake dance
on skates for the Kitty Themas Dance Recital, which
has a cast of 80 children and will take place Saturday
evening, 8 o’clock, in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The
Dance Recital is sponsored by the YWCA and tickets
can be secured from members of the YWCA or at the
door on Saturday. Tickets are adults SI.OO and children
50 cents.
"Old Maid's Convention” To Be
Held Friday At Gaines School
The “Old Maid’s Convention,”
given recently at the Winterville
School, will be presented at Gaines
School Friday night, May 12, at
8:00 o’clock.
This ‘enjoyable entertainment
met with great success at Winter
ville, and by popular request will
be shown' at Gaines sponsored by
the Gaines School P. T. A.

Children’s Fair
To Be Held At
Regional Library
An art exhibit, sewing displays,
and collections of stamps, coins,
bottles, mays, knives and insects
will be featured in the “Children’s
Hobby Fair” sponsored by the
Athens Regional Library Friday
and Saturday. This display of hob=
bies of Athens children will be
open form 9 a. m. until 6 p. m,, in
the children’s department.
A collection of old knives is the
display of Jim Anderson. Carlson
Chambliss will show his collection
of coins, bottles and maps. Mac
Arnold has brought an art exhibit
of three pictures and a painted
plate. Sally Pearson is showing
her stamp collection. Other en
tries will be feature sewing and
crocheting exhibits, and a collec
tion of different insects and snake
skins.
The theme of the fair is “Mak
ing Leisure Time Count.” This
week the library has displayed
books on hobbies which are to be
shown at the exhibit.
Entries for the exhibit should
be in by this afternoon so the li
brary can arrange the displays.

Begins Clean-Up
The committee in charge of the
clean-up program in Winterville
has anncunced that preparations
are being made to start cleaning
up the park Saturday afternoon,
May 13.
All those in the community who
are interested in getting the park
in shape for summer enjoyment
are asked to be at the park at 3
o'clock Saturday afternocon. It is
requested that those planning to
work bring the necessary tools
including hoes, . rakes, swing
blades, etc.
Those attending are asked to
bring a picnic supper and sweet
ened strong tea. Ice will be pro
vided by the committee. The pic
nic supper will be served at 6:30
p. m.
The committee wishes to stress
the importance of getting this
work completed, since school will
soon be out and the children will
need some place to play, The park,
which was made available last
season by the community, was

Spring Program of Creative Dance
on Wednesday, May 17 at 8:15 p.
m. in the Physical Education
building on Ag Hill. The perform
ance is-under the direction of Cora
A. Miller, Assistant Professor of
Physical Education. The program
is planned to further the under
standing and appreciation of dance
as creative expression. ~All in

On December ‘9 members of the
class in Dance Education—P. E,
353, gave their own program to
show work done during the quar
ter. Included was a demonstration
of the use of drums, rattles, rasps
and tambourines made by the stu-/
dents. On December 10 ‘an in
formal studio program was pre
sented. by members of beginning,
advanced dance classes, Dance‘
Club and the Director. During the
Christmas holidays, Miss Miller‘
and Wayne Smith of the Universi--
ty danced with the Barbara Mett--
ler Group in three performances
given in the Boston area. On Feb
ruary 25th; the students and fac
ulty of the Department of Physi
cal Education were hosts to guests
from 12 schools of this and neigh
boring states who attended the
first Georgia Dance Day. A per
formance was presented at the
close of the gathering. This was
followed on March 1 by ‘a special
program for the Art Students
League of the University. An in
formal studio program was given
on March 10 to show the composi
tions of winter quarter’s classes.
