On this occasion there was a

purning white tapers on either
side. There was a companion ar
rangement upon the chest. The
receiving line formed in front of
the mantel. :
Receiving guests at the idoor
were Mrs. James Lay,’ and Mrs.
Marion Conolly, from four to five,
and from five to six were. Mrs.
Jake Bernstein and Mrs. Grandi
son Caskey.
Arrangements of pink roses and
snapdragons and red roses were
used in the den. ;

Master Brian Hamilton Shaw,
infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Moody
Hamilton Shaw, of Atlania, will
be christened Sunday, Mother’s
Day, at 11 a. m., at -the First
Methodist Church in Atlanta. Rev.
Pierce Harris will officiate. Six
months-old Brian is the grandson
of Mrs. Opal Taylor Shaw, of At
lanta, and Mr. and Mrs. John J.
Thomas. Mrs. Shaw. ‘before her
marriage, was Miss Joy Rebecca
Thomas.
The traditional long chistening
robe, made . by. his grandmother,
Mrs. Thomas, is of imported - or
gandy from Switzerland. The yoke
features a tiny embrodiered and
lace-trimmed collar and inser
tions of round thread lace. The
deep-scalloped hem is beatifully
embroidered in white silk thread.
The bottom of the slip has a ruf
fle made of tiny roundthread in
sertion with edging to match.
White satin ribbon is used in the
insertion.
Mrs. Shaw’s sister, Mrs. Spen
cer R, McMaster, jr., will be God
mother, and her brother, John J.
Thomas, jr., will be Godfather.
Brian will be christened from a

The engagement of Miss Dorothy Anne Edmondson,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Royce Edmondson of Char
lotte, N. C., to Mr. Ralph Alexander Dickson, jr., son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Alexander Dickson of Gastonia, N,
C., is announced. The wedding will be an event of June.
She is the niece of Miss Susie West and Mr. and Mrs.
James Lay of Athens, and has many friends here where
she attended the University of Georgia and is a member

Hear Jim Barrow
Capt. Jim Barrow, USAR, will
base his talk on Armed Forces
Day when he addresses the mem
bers of the Athens Exchange Club
at the regular weekly meeting in
the Georgian Hotel Monday at one
o’clock,
He will be introduced by Capt.
Buddy Milner, USAR, and local
lawyer.
Capt. Barrow served in the
armed calvary and the First In
fantry Division during the war,
He was captured in “hzecoslova
kia by the Germans in 1945.
Among his awards he received the
Silver Star for gallantry in action
in the face of the enemy.
A graduate from the University
of Georgia, he is also a local law
yer.
