401 Broad Athens
Live And Let Live
We Don't Want A
Transportation Monopoly
We just want protection against unfair competition where by
we can continue to give you the finest possible in BUS TRANSPOR
TATION. The only way we can be protected and the only way
YOU, Mr. & Mrs. Citizen can be protected is by the installation
of meters in the Jitney cabs.
The jitney fleet operators claim we are trying to force them out
of business—THlS IS NOT TRUE — We are merely trying to
force them out of OUR business and into the TAXICAB business.
Other Cities have good metered cabs that give good service at a
profit—and they can here.
Merchants, business men, house wives and workers all know
the value of economical and dependable Bus Transportation—do
YOUR part to assure Athens will continue to have the same high
quality service as you now enjoy—
Councilman F. H. Williams has been appointed Chairman of a
special committee to report on this vital matter—Councilmen
Merritt Pound, Roger Haxzen, Luther Bond and R. W. Phillips are
the other members of this important committee—CALL them,
WRITE them, ADVISE them and your Mayor and Council that
you want YOUR BUS Transportation protected against unfair com
petition and unfair labor practices by placing meters in the taxi
cabs.—

PLAN ‘FLOATING HOTEL'
FOR ’52 OLYMPIC FANS
LONDON —(AP)— Travel offi
cials here are thinking of setting
up a floating hotel to house hun
dreds of Britons planning to at
tend the 1952 Olympic games in
Helsinki. That way they'll be able
to beat the housing shortage in
Finland.
Stanley Briault, travel organiiz
er and housing chief for the Lon
don 1948 Olympic Games, said to
day that “so many people already
want to go to Helsinki that an
Olympic liner seems to be the only
solution of all the housing and
travel problems.
“People will be able to live on
board ship and will be saved all
the bother of hunting for the ac
commodations which Helsinki at
present does not possess.”
He said he is discussing the pos
sibility of hiring such a liner with
leading shipping firms.
