HE BUYS 'EM BY THE POUND — Garage owner James A.
Chambers of Memphis, Tenn., presents a new dog, just rescued
from the city pound, to little Ann Marie Williams. Learning that
the pound had hundreds of pets that must be disposed of, Chambers
put up the money for 200 youngsters to bail out dogs and claim
them for their own.,

DRAMATIC GESTURE—A wife’s “long shot” and the generosity
of a Hollywood star combined to give actor Tom Calburn of London
‘his big chance for a break. Actress Jeanette McDonald is seen
taking down her own caricature from the wall of Hollywoed's
Brown Derby restaurant to make room for Colburn, Mrs. Colburn
wrote Bob Cobb, Derby owner, asking him to post her husband’s
picture in hopes some producer might see it and bring the actor to
Hollywood, After several Hollywood personalities bad turned down
Cobb’s request to give up their spot on his wall, Miss McDonald
consented graciously, and even volunteered to appear in person
to make the switch.
