Miss Mattie Lou Bradbury has
an interesting art exhibit now be
ing shown in the Regional Libra
ry. The exhibit includes one por
trait, street scenes and some still
life paintings done in oils and
casein.
Miss Bradbury studied at the
University of Georgia under La
mar Dodd, Howard Thomas, and
Miss Annie Mae Holliday, and at
the Gibbs Art Gallery in Charles
ton, S. C., under William Halsey.

M. R.Bunting Plan Fall Wedding
Mr. and Mzs. R. H. Tysinger announce the engagement of their
daughter, Miss Jerry Alene Tysinger, to Melvin Rudolph Bunting,
son of the late Rassie Bunting and the present Mrs, Alice Webb of
Lexington, N. C. The wedding will take place in the early fall.
The bride-elect is a graduate of Colbert High School and at=
tended Routson Business College. She is now associated with the
Registrar’s Office of the University of Georgia.
Mr, Bunting attended Nazareth Orphans Home and Rockwell
High Schools, after which he served two years in World War 11,
He is now associated with the Lexington Shirt Company, Inc.,
Lexington, N. C.
She has exhibited in the South
ern States Art League, the South
eastern, and the Scuth Carolina
Annual Exhibit for the past five
years. Miss Bradbury has held
one man shows in Athens, Char
leston and Columbia, S. C.
Some of her paintings are own
ed by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cresse,
Philadelphia, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs,
J. H. Easterby, of Columbia, S. C.;
and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Queen,

the editorial page of the Athens
Banner-Herald, quoted in part,
should acquatnt mnewcomers of
summer school with a popular
campus attraction. “One activity
of which Athenians feel justly
proud because of its origin, its
purpose, its long and pleasing his
tory and its sponsor is the weekly
Music Appreciation Hour . . . a
regular Thursday night feature in
the University Chapel under the
direction of Athens’ own Hugh
Hodgson. . . . He established and
has maintamea the Music Appre
ciation Hour for the mutual bene
fit of University students and Ath
enians. The large and apprecia=-
tive audiences in regular attend
ance throughout the years are a
testimonial to the influence and
value of such a program in a com
munity.”
On the first music appreciation
program of summer quarter,
which will be given tomorrow
(June 15th) Mr. Hodgson and
Robert Harrison, (also of the U.
of Ga., music faculty and Concert
master of Atlanta’s Symphony
Orchestra, will present an eve
ning of Piano and Violin music.
Handel, Beethoven and Tcherep
nine Sonatas for Violin and Pianb
are programmed.
During the summer the hour
will ,be 8:30 p. m., instead of 8
o’clock, and those who would en
joy an hour of music beautifully
performed are cordially invited to

Athens Baptist Church held the
monthly meeting at the home of
Mrs. Mary Ruth Seagraves on Fri
day, June 9th.
During the business session of
officers were elected for the next
six months.
Mrs. Lorene Pittman was sur
prized and delighted by a stork
shower given her by the members
of the class. She received many
lovely gifts.

Tea In-Macon And Parties
Compliment Miss Betty Wood
On Monday afternoon, Miss Bet-~
ty Wood, bride-elect, whose mar
riage to Mr, George Heery will be
a social event on the evening of
June 19, was honored at a beauti
ful tea given in Macon.
The affair was held at the
Southern Manor and Miss Rachel
Paris was hostess. Handsome ar
rangements of blue hydrangeas
and other summer flowers were
used in the stately home.
The honoree, her mother, Mrs.
Sam W. Wood, Miss Paris, and the
bridesmaids were in the receiving
line. They wore pastel afternoon
dresses and corsages.
The background music was pre
sented by Herbert Herrington, pi
anist, and Mrs. Margaret Kelly,
soloist.
The tea table was covered with
an antique satin and lace cloth
and centered with an arrange
ment of fox-gloves in pastel
shades.
Assisting Miss Paris in enter
taining were Mrs. Frank Sapp,
Mrs. M. E. Everett, Mrs. Wilbur
Tucker, Mrs. A. J. Thomas, jr.,
Mrs. Cliff Orr, jr., Pauline Paris,

Luncheon Tuesday
On Tuesday Miss Wood was
complimented with a luncheon giv
n by Mrs. Joe Neighbors and Mrs,
Milton Leathers at the Leathers
home on Rock Glenn Road.
A handsome arrangement of

on the luncheon table and gardeni=-
as and other summer flowers were
placed in the den and living room.
The guests included the honoree,
Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Heery, brides
maids and aunts of the bride. A
delicious buffet Iluncheon was
served.
Picnic Supper
On Tuesday evening Miss Betty
Wood and Mr. George Heery were
entertained at a picnic supper giv
en at Chatt’s Island, the country
home of Mr. and Mrs. David Mi
chael. |

chael and Mr, David Michael, jr.

Funeral Services
Held Monday For
Mrs. R. O. Gloyd
Mrs. Robert O. Gloyd, the for
mer Miss Grace Wright, 32, of
Winder, died Saturday, June 3, in
an Atlanta hospital.
Funeral services were held on
Monday at the Baptist Church in
Winder. Interment was in the
West View_cemetery in Atlanta.
Mrs. Gloyd is survived by her
husband, Robert Gloyd, and her
mother-in-law, Mrs. R. H. Gloyd
of Gainesville, Ga.
Mrs. R. H. Gloyd and the late
Mr. Gloyd were former residents
of Athens, where Mr. Gloyd was
manager of the J. C, Penney Com
pany for many years,

Holds Meeting
The June meeting of the Union
Home Demonstration Club of Wat-~
kinsville, was held recently at the
home of Mrs. Will Parsons in Wat
kinsville.
After a short devotional led by
Mrs. Carl Parsons, Mrs. Effie Gay,
Home Demonstration Agent for
Oconee county, gave a helpful
demonstration on assembling elec
tric lamps, and one on homemade
belts.
A delightful social hour was en
joyed as the hostess served delici
ous refreshments,
If a little paint spatters on a
piece of furniture, apply a few
drops of machine oil to the spots
and rub them in lightly with a
finishing paper.
