Says Maureen: “I'd play a 90-
years-old grandmother for a
chance to work with John Ford
again.” . . John Wayne would give
anything—even money—to get out
of the remaining two picture com
mitments RKO holds on his serv

doing a ‘“Perils of Pauline” in a

Marjorie Main doesn’t think it’s
going to worry Lana and Ava, but
she’s getting dolied-up for the first

- Several years ago Ronald Rea
gan agreed to do a story he didn’t
like as a “personal saver” to a
studio boss. In return the boss
agreed to star Reagan in a big
outdoor epic if the studio could
find the proper story. :
Reagan himself found the story
and helped negotiate its sale to the
studio. The studio released a big
announcement saying Reagan
would be starred in the film. Other
day the picture went before the
cameras—with anotner actor in
the starring role. Why movie ac

AFTER CASH
Xaxier Cugat’s objections to
Lorraine Cugat’s legal eagle, Mil
ton Golden, is one of the reasons
for the delay in the divorce set
tlement. But Golden says he’ll go
right on battling for a big cash
deal for Lorraine. . .. Mary Brian,
the Elizabeth Taylor of the si-
Jents-into-sound era, has turned
artist and is illustrating a book on
Hollywood by vet director Herbert
Brannon. Ronald Co!man wrote
the foreward. Mary says she’d do
a movie again if something good
came along — “something that
would be a departure for me.”
Republic’'s “The City That
Slept” will be shot by Allan Dwan
in Chicago. It’s about a crime solv
ed entirely by the Chicago police.
No private eyes or Philo Vance
reporters . . . A dancer named
Doug Spencer does a hot Charles
ton in “Hit Parade of 1951.” He
was the Texas Charleston champ
in 1926. His partner in those days
was a cute little blonde named
Ginger Rogeri. .
Every private eye in Hollywood
spends his afternoons looking at
Humphrey Bogart movies. But not
FEdmund O'Brien, a screen tough
guy who's been accused of stealing
Bogey’s thunder in the tight
lipped hero department.
Mention the Bogey resemblance
and Eddie slips right into the looks
he wears when the studio machine
guns trace swiss cheese patterns
in his midriff.
«f don’t think I'm like him at
all,” Eddie told me. “Sure, Tve
done a couple of funny impres
sions of him at parties, but then
who hasn’t?”
The Irish in Eddie gets along
great with the Spanish in his wife.

spout the language of Carmen
Miranda, Diosa Costello and Olga’s
other friends. “I like everything

George Mourar, driver examiner
for the Montana highway patrol,
reached his verdict in a hurry
when a license applicant lost con

on a test run. And he also catalo

man,” he said as he stepped from

He s a pigeon. He and others of
his breed, performing as earrier

by search parties when radio facil

Jim was sworn in at a special
ceremony. Sheriff James (Big

a tiny badge, which was tied
around his neck. And to make it
official, they had Little Jim put
his claw prints on a fingerprint
card which was placed in the per
