O’Dillon Services
To Be Conducted

This Afternoon -
Mrs. Lillie Elder O’Dillon, life
long resident of Jefferson, died at
her home there Saturday shortly
after noon, Death came to Mrs.
O’Dillon, 60, following an illness
of several months.
Funeral services will be con
ducted from Gallilee Church in
Jefferson this aftermoon at 3 o’-
clock, Rev. Randolph Cochran, of
ficiating, Interment will be in the
church cemetery.
Mrs. O’Dillon is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. Laßue O’Dillon
Burns, Atlanta; three brothers,
Paul and Billups Elder of Jeffer
son, and Melvin Elder, Tucker;
three sisters, Mrs. H. T. Johnson,
and Mrs. A. S. Roberts, both of
Jefferson, and Mrs. John L.
Lanier, Winder.
The daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Nathan Elder of Jack
son county, Mrs. O’Dillon was
married to James Alyyn O’Dillon
on December 17, 1916, She was a
member of the Christian Church.

Get Commissions
Many former Army nurses,
dietitians,"physical therapists, and
occupational therapists, who serv
ed during World War II have be~
come eligible for commissions in
the Regular Army under Public
Law 514, enacted 16 May 1950,
amending the Army-Navy Nurses
Act of 1947, g -
The new law opens integration
into the Regular Army for a period
of one year for those World War
II rurses and women’s medical
specialists who had not reached
their 35th birthday at the time of
initial entry on active duty with
the Medical Department, and if
separated, separated subsequent to
12 .May 19845.
Eligible for consideration are
Reserve officers now on EAD, Re
serve officers in civilian practice,
former Army nurses, dietitians,
physical therapists, and occupa
tional therapists not now actively
commissioned. All applicants hon
orably discharged or relieved from
active military duty after 12 May
1945, will be credited with service
from the period of-termination of
duty to the date of appointment
in the Regular Army. Standard
RA requirements for physical fit
ness and proficiency will be em
ployed in the evaluation of all
candidates. :
Appointment grades will be
from second lieutenant through
captain. Applications must be sub
mitted during the first six months
of the one-year integration period,
and must be received no later than
5 December 1950. Department of
the Army Circular No. 32, dated
5 June 1950, implementing the
legislation is now on its way to
the field.
Interested Reserve officers now
on EAD should apply through ap
propriate command channgls.
Those now engaged in civilian
practice may apply through the
Commanding General, Fort Ben- |
ning, Georgia, or Fort Bragg, ‘

Still At Large
MACON, Ga., July 29—(AP)—
Five conviets who forced their way
out of Milledgeville State oHspital
Friday were «'ill at large today.
Chief of Detectives Robert L.
Miller- said (t is possible that the
quintet fled Macon in a car re
ported stolen here late Friday.
The get-away car which the
group used to flee the State Hospi
tal was found abandoned yesterday
in Macon. A woman reported she
saw five men abandon the car.
Later, it was reported to police
that another car had been stolen
in that vicinity.
The five men were‘doing con
struction work at the institution.
Two were serving burglary terms,
one a robbery sentence, one for
auto theft and one for drunk driv.-
ing. Their names have not been
released.
Mo Plans Yet To
Re-open Wheeler
MACON, Ga., July 29—(AP)—
The Defense Department has made
no plans at present to re-open
Camp Wheeler, Senator Richard B.
Russell informed Mayor Lewis B.
Wilson today. ~
The senator’s letter was reply
to a query by Mayor Wilson con
cerning the status of the World
War Two camp in mobilization
plans. The mayor also informed
Senator Russell that Macon is
ready to throw whatever needed
facilities it has into the war effort.
Senator Russell said, however,
“that should it become necessary
to establish additional camps, I
shall of course strongly urge fa
vorable consideration of Camp
Wheeler.,” _
