Miss Geraldine Kesler Became Bride
Of Mr. John Cunningham On July 30th
- HULL, Ga. — Miss Geraldine
¥esler, oldest daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. R. L. Kesleg. became the
bride of John Mell Cunningham of
Lexington, Ga., son of Mrs. G. J.
Cunningham, in an imoressive
ceremony July 30, at Pleasant
C-nve Baptist Church.
The Rev. H. P. Giddens per
formed the ceermony. The church
altar formed a beautiful setting,
decorated with palms, ferns, white
gladiolus, and white candles. -
Preceding the ceremony, Mrs.
. Paul Crump, of Ila, pianist, rend
ered a program of wedding music.
Curtis Proveaux of Athens, vocal
ist, sang “I Love Thee” and “Be
cause.” At the close of the cere
mony he sang “The Lord’s Pray

Austin Kesler, brother of the
bride, and Bud Daniel, of Lexing
ton.

Marvin Sisk, of Lexington.
Junjor bridesmaids were Misses
Jane Kesler, sister of the bride,
and Lounette Smith. They wore
identical floor-length dresses of
lavendar organdy and carried
mateching nosegays.
Bridesmaids were Misses Janelle
Feslef, sister of thebbride, and

Mrs. Kesler, mother of the bride
wore rose crepe dress and a cor=
sage of pastel colors.
Mrs. Cunningham, mother of the
groom, wore a navy dress and a
corsage of white carnations.

mony a reception was held at the
home of the bride,

Mrs. Charles Johnson of Athens.

Miss Ann Johnson, Mrs. Earl
Payne, Mrs. Wyatt Griffeth, Mrs.
Bethel Wynn, Mrs. Hall Kesler,
Miss Joan Seagraves and Miss
Bobbie Jean Griffeth.
The groom and his bride left
for a honeymoon in Gatlingburg,
Tennessee, For going away, the
bride chose a navy suit with white
afiggssories. She wore a white or

Mr. Thompson’s mother is the
former Miss Lucy Candler, of At
lanta. He attended Boy’s High
and served overseas in World War
11, as a member of the Army Air
Corps. He graduated from the
University of Georgia in June,
where he was president "of the
Chi Phi Fraternity, and a member
of the Gridiron. He is a member of
the Piedmont Driving Club of At
lanta. ’

prospective members to the proper
committee.
The group decided to sponsor 2
fashion show in the Y. W. C. A.
gym, and set September 14 as a
tentative date. Tickets will be SI.OO
for adults and 50 cents for chil
dren. The proceeds from this af
fair will go towards furnishing
the Entre Nous room at the Y. W.
C. A. camp. ;
A discussion was held concern
ing the improvements which
needed to be made at the camp,
and a committee, headed by Miss
Millie Dearing, was authorized to
buy a drop-roll awning for the
cabin,
Three visitors from the Business
Girls Club contributed the devo
tional program which brought the
meeting to close. Miss Leah Per
ry spoke concerning the way one
may live according to the text of
the Lord’s Prayer, and Miss Thel
ma FElliott, accompanied by Mrs.
Dick Ferguson sang, “The Lord’s
Prayer.”
The next meeting will be held
August*24, at which time each
member will be appointed to a
specific committee to begin work
on organizing the fashion show.

Following the opening song,
“Every Day With Jesus,” Mrs.
Wynelle McLeroy gave a beautiful
devotional on “Prayer.” Using the
scripture in which Jesus taught
The Lord’s Prayer. She opened her
remarks with the poem “Take
Time To Pray.” Among other
things she said that the great peo
ple of the world today and in times
past are those who pray. Prayer
is. the most powerful single force
in the world—much more powerful
than the atom bomb. Every chris
tian must take time to pray. Mrs.
Jessie Denney closed the devotion~
al with prayer,
Mrs, Ruth Aaron gave the pro
granr on “Our Homes Are In God's
Hands” with Faith as the theme.
She said 1t is our responsibility to
believe, to trust and to have faith
in God. It is also our responsibjl
ity to direct our children so that
they have faith in God. She closed
by relating a thought-provoking
story about a little Indian girl
whose parent’s loved her so much
that they left her to be adopted by
white men so that she could en
joy more priviledges of life, but
because of the little girl’s faith in
the Great God her parents re
turned to her.
Mrs. Jessie Denney, president,
took charge of the business meet
ing. After minutes, reports and
roll call two captains were chosen
for an attendance contest; Mrs.
Virginia Williams and Miss Sue
Fambro,
The meeting was closed with the
Guild benediction.
Mrs. Mildred Maddox, recrea
tion chairman, led the group in a
memory contest then Mrs, Wynelle
McLeroy led in the “Baby-0”
game. A lovely gift was presented
later to Mrs. Ruth Evans.

YWCA Summer
Program Ends
The summer program sponsored
by the YWCA has ended, and it
was a very successful one, an
nounced Miss Marion Norris, di
rector,
The YWCA wants to express
their appreciation to the Athens
merchants that made the session
so wonderful.
At the end of the season a
watermelon cutting was held at the
YWCA camp, to which all those
taking part in the summer pro
gram were invited.
Cook potatoes in their jackets
when possible. The potato skin

water.
