A. No. Once insurance payments
have started, no change in the
method of payments may be made.
Q. My husband, a World War I
veteran, recently passed away,
leaving me a S6OO commercial life
insurance policy which I received
in a lump sum and which is my
only income. May I also obtain
death pension payments from VA?
A. Yes, Pensions may be paid
from the day following your hus
band’s death, so long as your sole
income during the calendar year
in which he died conssts of a
lump-sum settlement of commer
cial life insurance which does not
exceed sl,ooo—if you have no
children.
Q. I have just veen discharged
from the Army after four months’
service. Do 1 quaiify for GI Bill
benefits?
A. No. One of the requirements
is active service between Septem
ber 16, 1940, and July 25, 1947,

sent trade boom sweeping Malaya
together with the shortage of new
cars coming into this country is
bringing higher pri®es for second
hand cars. ealers say prices have

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19—(AP)
—Gen. Douglas MacArthur has
“gratefully accepted” an offer by
Colombia to send a battalion of
infantry, estimated at 1,080 men,
to Korea.
The State Department an
nounced vesterday that the accep
tance of the United Nations com
mander has been passed on to the
Colombian embassy. A note from
Secretary Acheson to Ambassador
Eduardo Zuleta Angel expressed
the gratitude of the U. S. for the
manner in which the South Amer
ican Republic had reaffirmed its
support of the U. N. action against
Communist aggression in Korea.
,Colombia previously had of=-
sered the frigate “Almirante Pa
dilla” for service in the Korean
war. This was accepted Oct. 4.
Colombia is the first Latin
American state to have its offer.
