Buintnall H. Merchant, deputy for
personnel for the U. S, Far East
Air Forces Headquarters in Tokyo,
has presented Lt. Col. Hugh M.
Farr, OIC, Procurement and As
signment Branch, with the Bronze
Star Medal at a ceremony in
FEAF Hq., Tokyo.
The citation follows:
“Lt. Col. Hugh M. Farr dis
tinguished himself by meriterious
schievement in connection with
military operations against the
enemy from 27 June to Novem
ber 1950 as Officer-in-Charge,
Procurement and Assignment
Firanch, Enlisted Division, Deputy
for Personnel, Headquarters, Far
East Air Forces. His comprehen
sive experience in the personnel
field and his thorough knowledge
of the military situation within
the theater enabled him to furn
ish enormously wvaluable studies
conicerning enlisted shortages, In
sddition, by admirable diligence
in evaluating available informa
tion, he succeeded in compiling
&ccurate analyses, instrumental
in determining enlisted personnel
requirements of all Far East Air,
Forces subordinate commands.
During a period of unprecedented
expansion, Col, Farr’s efforts re
sulted in providing capable per
sonnel in support of the Deputy
for Personnel mission. By his in
itiative, organizational ability and |
resourcefulness, he reflected great
eredit upon himself, the Far East
Air Forces, and the United States
Air Force"”
Col. Farr is the son of Mrs. J. J.
Farr, 1060 Oconee street, Athens,
Ga, He has served in the Far East
Air Forces for the past two years,
and was previously stationed at
Headquarters, Ai r Proving
Grounds in Florida. Prior to his
entry into the service, Col. Farr |

A. Townsend, of R. F. D. 4, Ath
ens, Ga., was recently assigned to
the 52nd Fighter-All - Weather |
Wing at McGuire Air I'orce Base,
Fort Dix, New Jersey,
‘Townsend, the son of Mr, and
Mrs: G. A. Townsend, was pre- |
viously stationed at New Castle
AFB.,, Wilmington Del, beforel
coming to McGuire Air Force Base.
The 52nd Fighter Wing, to which 1
he is assigned, is a key unit of
the Eastern Air Defense Force.
Pvt. Townsend is presently assign- 1
ed to the Food Service Squadron.
