HOLLYWOOD — (NEA) — Be

Hemingway before the cameras?
T checked with Gene Evans, t]lo|
newcomer who scored as the cigar- |
chewing sergeant in “The Steel
Helmet” on the rumor that a plan
is being cooked up to star him in
a film biography of the author.
“There’s been talk about it'l
that’s all,” he shrugged. “I expect |
that if it’s ever done. it will prob- |
atlv be at MGM and Clark Gablel
wiil play Heminfway. Not that I
wouldn’t like to. War, women and |
clbow-bending. What a movie it
would be!” 1
Two hundred-a n d-three-pound
Gene still howls when he remem
bers his role in a western. “I was
awful,” he says, “I shook and thei
horse shook right with me.” l

Pat Wymore on her romance and |
marriage to Errol Flynn: ‘
“So many people thought it was |
all publicity. I've got news for
everybody. It's the real thing. We[
worked in the same picture for |
three weeks before we really|
talked. Then suddenly one morn
ing we looked at each other and
bells rang and it was love. T didn’t
know what had hit me.”

Only Bob Fallon’s uncertain
draft status, I hear, is delaying his
marriage to Marie Wilson. He's

Revival of the 10 - year-old
Range Buster western films on TV
has put a town named Corrigan
ville on the tourists’ map. Until
TV eame along, Western Star
Crash Corrigan rented his “town”
—a western movie street—to mo
vie makers and leased other parts
of his 2000-acre ranch-home in the
Chatsworth mountains for sets
such as the village in “Vendetta.”
Except for occasional film com
panies, life at Corriganville, 45
miles from Hollywood, was rather

Casting switch: Bob Mitchum
playing the honest cop and Bob
Ryan as the heel in the remake of
“The Racket.”
Additional proof that women are
the movies’ biggest customers. A
fan mag poll of favorite stars puts
four men — John Wayne, Brod
Crawford, Spencer Tracy and
Glenn Ford—at the top.

New Lena Horne? |
They’ll be beating the drums for
Dorothy Dandridge as the screen’s
new Lena Horne when “Harlem

about the “new face” tag: i

CLIMBS LAST TREE AT 89
LAMESA, Te.—(AP)—To cele
brate his retirement, 89-year-old
J. G. Minor skipped nimbly up a
step-ladder and perched in a tree.
An Alabaman who came to
Texas in 1895, Minor has been
pruning and shaping trees, shrubs
and rose bushes for Lamesa resi
dents since 1924, He kept at work
regularly until recently. His last
job was the trimming of trees and
shrubs at the post office a few
days ago.
“I'm going to quit and take it
easy now, and sell my tools for
sls—but that’s too cheap,” he said
almost tearfully.
