University Woman's
Club Held Tealn =
Memorial Gardens
The University Woman’s Club
met on Tuesday, May 8, in the
Founders’ Memorial Garden on
the campus. The ladies of the De
partments of Landscape Architec
ture and Agronomy were the hos
tesses with -Mrs. Hubert Owens
and Mrs. W, O. Colling acting as
co-chairmen, Refreshments were
served from a beautiful buffet
arranged on the upper terrace.
Mrs. Paul Chapman and Mrs,
Walter Martin presided at the
unch bowls. They were assisted
I)n serving by Mrs. Matthias Stelly,
Mrs. Henry F. Perkins, Mrs. Acton
Brown and Mrs. Harold Morris.
In the lower garden in a re
ceiving line headed by Mrs. Ow
ens, were assembled the ladies
who have come to the University
community since the beginning of
the academic year in whose honor
the meeting was held. They were
introduced so the club members
by the president, Mrs. Tomlinson
Fort, and the president-elect, Mrs.
Julian Miller, The newcomers are
Mesdames Perron Shoemaker,
Harry Wright, Sterling Dupree,
W. T. Ezzard, J. E. Noland, Janres
E. Yearty, Calhoun Bowen, Carle
ton Cass Ellis, Howard B. Young,

This was the last meeting of
the University Woman’s Club un
til next October, and because of
the lovely setting, the delicious
refreshments, and the company,
it was one of the most enjoyable
meetings of the year.

The rcitation by Alpha Delta Pi
is the firet to be awarded exclu
sively to Mrs. Colman and follows
the hichest tribute which can be
made tn a radio show, the George
Foster Peabodv award. which was
presented to “The Halls of Ivy,”
its writers, Don Quinn and Walter
Brown Newman, and Mr. and Mrs.
Colman, April 26 in New York.
Alpha Delta Pi which celebrates
its 100th anniversary May 15, was
founded at Wesleyan Female Col
lege, Macon, Georgia. in 1851. The
sorority returns to Wesleyan, the
first chartered college for women,
this June for its National conven
tion. |

of her daughter, Miss Dorothy
Elizabeth Child, to the Rev. Paul
Edgar Crane of Nitro, West Vir
ginia, "
The bride-elect, daughter of the
late Mr. Earl Child, attorney of
Shelby, was graduated from Bel
haven College in Jackson, Miss
issippi, where she received her
bachelor of music degree. Miss
Child did graduate work in public
school music and religious educa
tion in Bostan, Nashviile, and
Richmond. She is now Director of
Religious Education in the First
Presbyterian Chuvrch of Green
ville, Mississippi. She is an active
member of Beta Sigma Phi Soror
ity, and is the director of the Com
munity Choral Group of Green-

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — An
nouncement is made by Judge and
Mrs. Henry William Muller, Lex
ington avenue, Fort Wayne, Ind.,
of the engagement and approach
ing marriage of their daughter,
Sally, to Mr. William Hinton Shy,
of Athens, Georgia and Miami,
Florida. The wedding will take
place June 2 at Bay Shore Luth
eran Church in Miami, Reverend
George Shuster officiating.
Miss Muller is a graduate of
South Side High School and the
University of Michigan where she
majoried in economics. She is
presently residing in Fort Lauder
dale, Florida, where she is em
ployed by the Herold Boat Com
pany.
Mr. Shy is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Hinton B. Shy, Athens, Geor
gia. He is a graduate of the Uni
versity of Georgia where he re
ceived his master’s degree in eco
nomics and mathematical statis
tics. He is a member of Phi Beta
Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Mu Ep
silon, Beta Gamma Sigma, and
Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity.

the Athens branch of the American
Association of University Women
Tuesday afternoon, May 15, at
four o'clock. His subject will be
“A Fullbright Fellow's Year in
Rome”,

brated its Silver Anniversary year
in Athens this year. The AAUW
study program has included talks
by Miss Sophia Papanessiou, a
discussion of modern paintings and
serigraphs by Howard Thomas,
and an explanation of politics and
the merit system by Joseph Ecker. ’

Creafive Dance Program Is To Be
Presented Here Tuesday At 8:15
A spring program of Creative
Dance will be presented by Uni
versity students and faculty on
Tuesday, May 15th, 8:15 p. m, in
the Physical Education Building
on Ag Hill. The belief that any
interested student can learn to
compose dances as an expression
of his own personality and motor
capabilities will be substantiated
by the varied compositions to be
shown. Students learn not only to
compose individual and group
dances, but to make their own ac
companiments, instruments and to
study visual desigm in relation to
movement.
