Deparfment Encampment Of VFW
To Be Held Here June 21-24th
The Georgia Veterans of For
eign Wars will hold their Annual
Encampment in Athens June
22 - 24th. Registration will be
gin on June 21st, the first meet
ing of the Encampment to be held
at 9:00 a. m. of the 22nd. The La
dies Auxiliary to the Veterans of
Foreign Wars will also be present
for this Encampment, holding a
simultaneous meeting.

those delegates. Grady Pittard, jr.,
Department Public Relations offi
cer and former Department Judge
Advocate, is the Encanmpment
Chairman in charge of overall
plans and preparation.
Plenty of rooms have been
promised for the 800-1000 dele
gates expected to attend this En
campment, with the cooperation
of all hotels and other rooming
facilities promised. This will be
the first time that the Veterans of
Foreign Wars have held their
Georgia Encampment in Athens,
and the various business houses,
the Merchant’s Council, the Cham
ber of Commerce and City and
County officials have cooperated
with the Chairman and his Com
‘mittee to assure that the occasion
‘will be enjoyed by every delegate
‘and visitor. The University of
)Georgia, now engaged in celebrat
ing its 150th anniversary, has
promised the use of every availa=-
ble facility for the Encampment.
Annual Election
The Annual Election of Officers
will conclude the business of the
Encampment on Sunday afternoon,
June 24th, but prior to that time
the delegation will discuss the
many matters of business which
concern the operation of the De
partment. Among these will be the
ways and means to implement the
services which the Georgia De
partment will provide for the
summer entertainment and edu
cation of School Boy Patrol mem
bers at the Camp for them which
the Department is providing in co
operation with the Georgia State
Patrol at Lake Blackshear. The
delegates will also hear several
nationlly known speakers during
their stay in Athens, and receive
a first-hand report of the opera
tions in Korea. Major-General
John H. Church, returned from
‘Korea to the Chief of Training at
Fort Benning will deliver the
feature address of the Encamp
ment.
Between Dbusiness sessions the
delegates and visitors will be at
tending various events that have
been planned for the occasion. One
of these will be the Annual Mem
orial Service to the war dead and
to the deceased members of the

delegates to attend the Church of
their choice when in Athens. One
of the largest parades ever held in
Athens in planned for the En
campment, with several outstand
ing bands accompanying the dele
gates. Featured in this Parade will
be such outstanding bands as the
All Girl Band sponsored by Wal
ton County Post 4421 of the VFW
and several other Post bands.
Also featured will be the various
Post Beauty Queens who will
compete at a Beauty Pageant for

to the National Encampment and
