ORIENTAL FRUIT MOTH
When the tip of a peach twig
wilts, it is almost certain that the
oriental fruit moth is present, say
horticulturists. This occurs chief
ly during the early part of the
season. The remedy: two pounds
of 50 percent wettable D. D. T.
powder to 100 gallons of water or
the spray being used. For small
quantity use, try four tablespoons
to three gallons of spray material
or water,
Agronomists recommend culti
vating peanuts from the time the
plants begin to come up until they
cover a good portion of the ground.

ATTENDANCE DROPS
NEW YORK—(AP) — The ma
jor leagues fell 67,899 short of the
1950 opening day attendance this
year. The inaugurals drew 429,742
with Cleveland again attracting
the largest turnout—4B,3l6. The
Giants were high in the National
League with 30,870. The smallest
gathering was at Sportsmans Park
in St. Louis where only 5,660 her
alded the opening of the Brown’s
season.
WORMS IN PEACHES
The number of worms in
peaches can be reduced by picking
up, at seven-day intervals, fruit
that has fallen from the tree. This
should be done three times, ac
cording to George H. Firor, Exten
sion Service horticulturist. The
fruit picked up should be de
stroyed by emerging in water or
placing in boiling water for a
short period.
