Southern seed certification of
ficials who are trying to bring uni
formity to certification work in the
regon will get together here, July
29, 30 and 31, for their second an
nual meeting.
Fifteen states will be represent
ed, and delegates will attempt to
further alleviate a situation re
sulting in different languages be
tween the states as far as seed cer
tification is concerned. This con
dition was brought about because
of différent terminology and dif
ferent colored seed tags in the
various states, according to Hugh
A. Inglis, president of the group,
and Georgia Agricultural Exten
sion Service agronomist, working
with the Georgia Crop Improve
ment Association.
Work to standardize seed certifi
cation in the South began at the
first meeting of the seed officials
last year. Ten topics are listed for
discussion this year, and more
than a score of experts in the field
will lead the talks. °
The meeting will be held at the
Piedmont Hotel. Registration will
begin at 4 p. m. Sunday, July 29,
and continue at 8 a. m. on Monday
before the formal part of the pro
gram gets under way at nine.
A banquet is scheduled for Mon
day night, July 30. A. H. Ward,
district Extension Service agent,
Aiken, S. C, will be the speaker.
“Pessimism and Progress” will be
the subject.
A tour of the experiment sta
tion near Griffin will feature the
session on Tuesday, July 31.
