Food Preservation
Champion To Be
Named In Georgia
The Georgia homemaker who
does the best job of preserving a
home supply of food for her fam
ily will be crowned state food pre
servation champion for 1951, an
nounces Mrs. Ruth T. Broach, Ex
tension Service specialist in food
preservation.
She will be named at the State
Fair in Macon in October, where
she will receive a covered silver
vegetable dish and sls in cash.
Second and third place winners
will get $lO and $7:50 respectively,
Mrs. Broach said.
The National Garden Institute
will gave the vegetable dish. The
cash is being offered by the Geor
gia State Fair Association.
Any homemaker, rural or ur
ban, who has canned or frozen
food in 1951 is eligible to enter
the contest, the food preservation
sp~~ialist pointed out.
Each contestant will send a
sample exhibit of her canned
products to the State Fair. The
exhibit will include two jars of
vegetables two of fruits, two of
meat and two of pickles or relish.
Mrs. Broach added that a record
of all home canning and freezing
done in the home or community
freezer-locker and canning plants
should accompany the exhibit.
Mrs. Broach has suggested that
county home demonstration club
councils take this program as their
1951 project in food preservation.
Under the plans outlined, the
county will send her exhibit and
record to the State Fair to be
judged for state honors. ¥
Awards will be made on a basis
of quality, ‘variety and total
amount of food canned, frozen and
dried.
