We have enjoyea this year. Most
of us are getting ready for vaca

others to the mountains, many
will visit their grandmothers and
some will stay at home and play.
We hope we can get good story
books from the library each week
during our vacation and have
somebody read to us. We are look
ing forward to becoming txr'st
graders next fall; then we will
learn to read for ourselves.
We want to thank all the moth
ers who have been so good to us
this year. They have given us
many wonderful surprises.
Many of us are glad that we are
out of school and others are sad
about it. We will be out only three
months, then we will be back
with our friends for another nine
months. Our minds will be re
freshed from our summer’s rest.
Happy summer vacation to ev
erybody. \
Mrs. Allan’s Class
What a happy year we have
had! We hope to be good second
grade pupils next year. If we get
books fromthe Library and read

have a pleasant summer. Books
are our good friends and if we
learn to enjoy them while we are
voung we will never be lonely.
Thursday we had such a pleasant
surprise. Phillip Wood’s mother
and Marian Elrod’s mother brought
us ice-cream and candy. We en

The Class Prophecy
Hello folks; with graduation
‘here let’s look into the future.
‘Many years have passed and we
.pick up the telephone receiver and
who do we hear, none other than
Lorene Weathersbee, Dolores Dun
_away, and Lemma Prather as tele
phone operators., One day we find
ourselves in the St. Mary’s Hospi
tal with Constance Gurley as our
nurse. One of the best doctors in
town, Jerry Tate, operated on a
friend of ours while we were
there.
After we got out of the hospital
we decided to take a rest. Before
leaving we wanted to be sure our
business afafirs were straightened
,out. As we traveled through the
|offices we found Barbara Reed,
Almira Gardner, Anne Strickland,
| and Louise Ward as secretaries for
| some fine business executive’s.
| Then when we felt fresh as a
. daisy we boarded the plane where
| we find Fambro Knight as pilot
1' and Johnny Tolbert as co-pilot and
| the plane stewardess was Venese
| Hilliard. Then as we changed
| planes at New York we found as
| our pilot Pete Martin and Billy
| Ray Jordan as co-pilot and the
| stewardess was Wilma Prather.
! When we finally reached San
Diego, Colifornia we went to the
“Paradise” night club where wei
I saw Melinda Herring, the most
{ popular tap dancer in California.
| The next day we saw Billy Joe
| Guest, a farmous army officer on
{ his leave. He told us that he had
| shot down 30 Korean planes while|
| he was in Korea. 1
| A few days later we went fish
| ing with some friends and saw
! Danny Poole and Bobby Stephens
)who was flying overseas to con
| fishing. Saturday afternoon we
! went to the baseball game where
we saw Cloyce Lee who had be
l come @ very good pitcher. He
| pitched for the New York Giants.
{ Sunday we went to a swimming
| contest in which were some of the
| world’s best swimmers, these in
‘cluded Aubrey Lee Pittman. The
| following day we read in the pa
} ver about a great scientist, Gary
Doster, who invented plastic bub
| ble gum.
| On the way home at one of the
air ports, we saw someone that
we knew. It was Wayne Tiller
| who was flying over seas to con-
Jtinue his study of music. When
| we returned home we felt better
| than ever and then at the first P.
| T. A. meeting of the year at Oco
| nee Street School. We found Patsy
1 Hawkins there as teacher of the
i fourth grade and Martha Williams
} teacher of oratory. Things do
j change as the years come and go.

Our picnic at Whitehall was
such fun—and such excitement
! when we rode back to Athefis on
the train! For most of us it was
our very first train trip and we
loved every minute of it. Mr.
Booth, Eddie’s father, gave us a
| special treat when he bought the
| train tickets for each child. Each
!child gave his ticket to the nice
| conductor on the train.
| «The mothers in our clas:s were
’so good to us on our trip, and

were surprised by special treats
from Mrs. Epps, Mrs. Cope, Mrs.

We have been very busy with
our nine weeks test and getting
ready to leave school for the sum
mer. bk oy
We learned a great deal during
our study of birds. Mr. E. B. Mell
talked to us about birds and gave
some bird calls. On Monday we
went to Memorial Park. We had
so much fun walking through the
woods looking for birds. The hot
dogs we roasted tasted so good.
We were glad Rev. and Mrs, Elli
son and Mrs. Andy Davis could
go with us. Mr. and Mrs. Kenney
helped us very much by taking
some of us out so the park.
On Thursday we gave a televis
ion show in our room about birds.
All of the classes came to see it.
Dr. Dalton and Dr. Sutton from
the University came, too.
We have enjoyed having Miss
Gilda Hardman for our appren
tice teacher this quarter.
We want to wish for all of our
readers a happy, happy summer.
College Ave. School Council
We have enjoyed our Council
meetings this year. All of the rep
re-enu tatives have done their work
well.
Our school has been a better
place because we have all tried to
cooperate.
At our last meeting of the year,
Mr. E. B. Mell talked to us on
Courtesy. We enjoyed his talk and
want to remember the things he
told us.
This summer we will try to be
better ciizens, remembering our
slogan: “That We Want to Sprin
kle Good Citizenship Today, so it
will Flood Our Community To
morrow.”
Mrs. Cooke’s Class
Thursday our class finished the
study of Milk in our Science. We
visited the Co-Operative Creame
ry. The manager carried us
through and explained how the
mflu were washed and Sterial-
We saw how the milk was
brought in from the dairies. The
modern way milk is pasteurized,
cooled and then bottled. We saw
the big electric churn where the
cream is made into butter.
It was interesting to see them
make Hunkies, and dip them into
the chocolate, then re-freeze,
The coldest place we ever saw
was the freezing room, where the
ice cream is packed to harden.
Most of us are proud of our
work we'd done this year.
We hope everyone has a happy
vacation.
Miss Epp’s Class
On Friday we gave a program.
It was a +#talent show and different
people did different stunts. Ame

ed those on the show were Ruth
King, Robert White, Jack Jordon,
Dougles Ross, Shirley Pilgrim,
Linda Webb.

two hand numbers on French
horas and a trombone. Jean Han
cock, Lou Nell Epps, and Mary
Ann Wilson did some twirling
with their batons. Sammie Givens
and Betty Jo Whitehead did a
song and act with the class sing
ing the chorus. The class sang
“The Erie Canal” and “Arkansas
Traveler.” Janet Arnold played
two piano solos. Opal Reynolds,
Inez Vickery, Janet Arnold, Sam

Mrs. Tarpley’s Class
The sixth graders in Mr. Tar
pley’s room climaxed their work in
art this year with a puppet show
Thursday.
Scenes from the show were shot
and will be used in the techaicolor

now being y the
Souflinem iducafiom%duofln
Service.
When the class started puppets
it was not known that they would
be used in a movie, so the film
ing came as a most exciting and
satisfying experience for the boys
and girls,
Miss- Nancy Fchols, apprentice
teacher, from the University has
worked with the group during the
past quarter.
After several weeks of work,
each member of the class comple
ted a puppet, including designing,
painting, and sewing clothes for
his puppet. Incidentally several of
the boys decided that sewing was
more complicated than “crochet
ing looked.”
A stage to accommodate both
hand puppets and string puppets
presented quite a problem to the
stage crew. Every aspect of that
problem was solved by the crew.
Curtains and scenery for the stage
gere designed and painted by the
ass.
Planning the play and writing
the scrlrt became a vital problem
in English classes,
The scene of the play is a
elassroom. Puglll are presenting
a program on Fire Safety.
Bobby Cornelison acted as mas
ter of ceremonies.
