PINCH IN BOULDING
SLOWDOWN
NEW YOR K— (AP) =-- The
slowdown in home boulding under
tederal restriction on credit is now
oxpected to have an impact on
rouse furnishings and other retail
dealers.
Frederick E. Gibson, president
of the Long island Home Builders
Institute, reports that surveys
show that new home buyers spend
an average of $1,450 for furniture,
electrical appliances, hardware,
draperies, dishes and other house
hold items.
“A total of 64,000 dwellings
were built in the four Long Island
counties along last year,” he said.

| PAKISTAN PUSHES TEXTILES
| KARACHI— (AP) — Pakistan
is making rapid strides in the de
! velopment of her textiles indus
try. She expects to attain self
sufficiency by 1956 with a target
of 1,035,000 spindles.
Under an emergency develop
ment plan drawn up late in 1950
to buy 250,000 spindles in two
years at a cost of about $22,500,-
000, the government of Pakistan
already has purchased 150,000
spindles — 100,000 from the Uni
ted Kingdom and 50,000 from
Japan. A purchasing mission is
now in Japan negotiating for the
remainder. At present there are
only 21 cotton textile mills in
Pakistan. .
Each major league club is re
quired to furnish each player on
its roster with two complete uni
forms, exclusive of shoes.
The largest opening day crowd
in major league history was 73,163
at Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium
+on April 20, 1948.
