A “hopeful conclusion” can be reached that drug addiction is de=
creasing slowly, according to Dr. Victor H. Vogel, head of the
federal addict-rehabilitation hospital at Lexington, Ky. He bases
his hope on the number of new patients admitted to his hospital
and the similar one at Ft, Worth, Tex. He said admissions at the
hospitals generally follow the national trend in narcotics addiction.
Newschart above shows that 440 teen-agers were admitted in 1950,
while the number estimated for 1951 will be only 388. Dr, Vogel
thinks teen-age addiction may be a fading fad. Addiction among
patients over 21 is also expected to decrease.
