PAINTING SKILL DELAYS
PENITENTIARY SENTENCE
ROCKFORD, 111. — (AP) — A
convict won another delay from
Circuit Judge William R. Dusher
in a habeas corpus petition to
serveserve his sentence in the
Winnebago County jail instead of
the Joliet penitentiary, all because
he’s handy with a paint brush.
His attorney told the court the
man was “doing a good job of re
habilitation” in the county jail.
“He does good work with a paint
brush,” the attorney said.
“It's a strong request,” Judge
Dusher commented. “I'll take it
under advisement at least until
the painting is done.”

CHICKEN IN THE ROUGH |
BEATRICE, Neb.—(AP)—The
engine in Nelson Walker's car
seemed to have developo? a pecu
liar sound—more like a cluck than
a knock. : »
So the Clatonia, Neb., man
pulled in in front of a Beatrice
produce house, lifted the hood and
discovered—to his surprise—a hot
!but otherwise unhurt chicken.
| " The hitch-hiking ride of the
biddy ended right there. Walker
sold the chicken to the produce
station. |
