The wedding of Miss Martha
Jean Warwick, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Harold E. Hardeman, of
Athens, and. Mr. William Paul
Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
paul L. Thompson of Athens, will
take place August 11, at 5:00 p. m,
at the Young Harris Memorial
Methodist Church.
Miss Janette Laney is to serve
as the bride’s maid of honor,
Bridesmaids will be Miss Montie
76 Shelnutt and Miss Nira Dillard,
Miss Mary Kathryn Thompson,
sister of the groom, will serve as
junior bridesmaid.
The nuptial music will be pre

year will direct the Pre-Millennial
Soul-Winning Conference at Lake
Louise Conference Grounds, Aug
ust 6th through 12th, at Toccoa.
He has placed around hinr many
of the country’s leading Bible
teachers and evangelists. Mr. Gar
land, a nationally known evange
list, author and editor, has had an
unusual career. In business for
himself before 17 years of age,
later allying himself with the
Schubert’s of New York City in
show business, then rose to the
heights of the profession only to
fall back and to find himself a
drug addict.
Life began anew for him in a
dimly lighted cell of “Tombs”
prison as he lay, hearing the voice
of God for the first time, he ac
cepted him as his personal Sav
iour. After laying several years in
hospital,s sanatoriums and rest
homes he responded to the call to
preach the Gospel, and has been
actively engaged as an evangelist
since 1940.

their daughter, Lucy Elizabeth, to
Mr. Lothar Tresp, of Wurtzburg,
Germany, son of the late Dr. and
Mrs. Vincenz Tresp, of Ortelsburg,
East Prussia.
Mrs. Nickerson 1s the former
Miss Norah Lamb, of New Or
leans, La, Miss Nickerson is a
graduate of the Athens High
School and received her Bachelor
of Arts Degree Magna Cum Laude,
from the University of Georgia in
June. She was active in campus
organizations, was chosen for

in Bieberstein, Germany and has
completed graduate work at the
University of Georgia. He will
receive his Ph.D. from the Uni
versity of Wurtzburg, Germany,
next June.

interview with the famous crim
inal agnostic lawyer, Clarence

is Dr. John McNeill of Glasgow,
Scotland. Dr. McNeill, an accom
plished musician as well as an
outstanding Bible teacher and
evangelist, has preached to mil
lions of people in many countries.

held in Athens on Wednesday,
August 8, 1 to 6 p. m., are asked

Monday morning, 11 o’clock.

Physical Education Majors Club;
president of the Arnold Air so
ciety; Lieutenant Colonel is A, F.
R. O. T. C.; and a distinguished
military student. He received Sec~-
ond Lieutenant commission in the
United States Air Force Reserve.

To Address First
Methodist WSCS

Mrs. Charles C. Wilson will
speak to the Woman’s Society of
Christian Service of the First
Methodist Church at their inspira
tional meeting on August 6.
Mrs. Wilson’s subject will be
“Problems of Old People and Ways
of Solving Them.” She is a native
of Richmond, Va., a graduate of
William and Mary College, and a
trained social worker who has
done work in Florida and Georgia.
During Mrs. Wilson’s residence
in Athens, she has identified her
self with the religious and civic
organizations of the city. She
taught in the Primary department
of the First Methodist Church
School for four years. She was
welfare chairmian of the League of
Women Voters before her election
as president, an office she now
holds.
The inspirational rnreeting will
be held in the church auditorium,
Monday, August 6, at 4 p. m. Mrs.
O. B. Copeland will have charge
of the program and Mrs. T. w.
Paschall will preside over the bus
