Mrs. Hopper’s Class
Last week was an exciting week |
for our class.
we were so happy to see so
many of our mothers and fathers
at the P. T. A. meeting last Tues
day evening, Our class sang
Christmas carols.
Mr., Ritch came at the regular
time Tuesday, and brought a
beautiful red snare drum from
the University of Georgia for us
to see. He played a beautiful In
dian song for us. We look for
ward to the many surprises Mr.
Ritch has for us. We are learning
so many things about the imstru
ments of an orchestra,
Mary Jean and David Patman
were sick last week and we missed
them very much. We wish for
them a speedy recovery. We are
always disappointed when we have
an absence.
We enjoyed a lovely picture,
“The Bee City” last week. We
liked it very much because we
have studied “Bees” and under
stand many things about them. We
always think of bees and ants as
social animals, because they live
and work together.
The Class
Miss Wallace’s Class
Our class is all excited about
Christmas. Would you like to
know how to make a clever Santa?
We had fun making them. They
are clever little ornaments for ta
ble decorations, Make one with
us, if you like.
From stiff paper draw a circle
sixteen inches in diameter and cut
into thirds. This makes three.
Draw a shallow circle on the point
of one and about one and one-half
inches down draw a border for his
cap. Bring the sides of this paper
together to form a cone and pin
in place. Now draw in his fea
tures and paint them. Tint his
face but paint the rest of the cone
a deep red. Now paste cotton on
the tip of the cone, the border of
his cap and his mustache and
beard, Try it.
Treva and Vivian brought nylon
cotton for all of us to use.
One of our favorite stories is
‘The Littlest Angel.” Mrs, Keener
let us borrow her copy and we
saw the movie also.
We spatter painted cover for
our Christmas booklets, For this
we used designs which we our
sclves drew. We also designed in
vitations for P. T. A. These had
a lot of color. Everyone had a
part in decorating our Christmas

For Christmas
Mrs. Grant’s Class
Signs of the season are evident
in Miss Wilhite’s Mrs. Robinson’s
and Mrs. Grant's rooms. Christ
mas trees, large and small, and
toys of all shapes greet the pupils
and visitors.
Christmas carols are dotting the
daily lessons of reading, writing
and arithmetic. We wish that it
would snow so that the cut out
snow scenes would look more in
season.
Several pupils have been absent
with colds.
Mrs. Butler’'s Class
What a week! So much has hap
pened. We have started making
our Christmas tree decorations,
and they are so pretty. Miss
Thompson our apprentice showed
us how, and helped us make them.
We did so hate to have her leave
us Friday, for she has been so
good and helpful. How much we
a.e going to miss her. She gave
us a farewell party, and we were
so sad to have her go. We want
her to have a happy Christmas,
and a glad New Year. e
We have missed all the sick
children; Beverly Maxey, Sandra
Anglin, Thomas Allman, Stanley
Strickland, Oneal Flanagan, Car
olyn Wheby and Patricia Clark.
Tommy Beck and J. C. Mason have
returned and it is nice to have
them back again. We hope they
will all be back well before the
holidays start,
Mrs. Dickerson’s Class
We had a Christmas play, “The
Magic Basket,” and many of our
mothers and friends came to see
it. Some of the other grades in
school saw our play and liked it.
We made our own scenery. The
houses were of bright colors, that
formed a background for our play.
We drew Christmas designs for our
curtain. We enjoyed the poem, the
dance and Christmas songs we
had in our play. Many of the boys
and girls brought holly, candles,
and greeery that added much to
our room.
We enjoyed the delicious candy
that Freddie Prickett’s mother and
George Finger's mother served us.
They gave us two nice surprises.
We like the health chart Miss
Hawes made about brushing our
teeth. We are trying to brush our
teeth more often.
The library books are most en
joyable. Miss Hawes wrote our
names on large sheets of paper
and when we read library books
she places different colored paper
by our names. Many of us have
read lots of books.
In all of our written work we
are trying to keep our papers
neat and nice.
Mrs. Tabor’s Class
We have had our first textile
painting. some of us painted the
first time, and, some of us did
not. The ones who did not get to
paint first had another lesson.
Some of us are farming our pic
tures from Christmas presents.
At the last class meeting we
eltcted Bucky Wilson to be cap
tain of the room patrolmen. He
is supposed to see that all the table
patrolmen do_their duties. He has
a record of all the duties by which
to check them.
We have finished our visit to
Frik and Inger in Norway. We
have learned many things about
Norway. One of the most interest
ing was that Norway isn’t as cold
as we might think. It is warmed
by the winds blowing over the
North Atlantic Drift. The North
Atlantic Drift is a warm ocean
current, from the Gulf Stream,
that flows northward and east
ward.
Charlotte Lavender's mother
made Frosty the Smowman. 1t is
trimmed in red, and all of us
think it is cute. We think he makes
a good patrol captain.

Mrs. Brightwell’s Class
Our room is full of Christmas
spirit. Last week we brought pota
toes to school. We cut designs on
them and printed the designs on
cards and wrapping paper. The de
signs were either animals or peo
ple from the Christmas story. We
put the cards and paper on the
bulletin board. Tuesday Sonny
Cooper and David Paris brought
chicken wire to make a Christmas
tree. We bend the wire in the
shape of a .Christmas tree
and put it on the bqlletin
board, Then we took green
parer and made branches
for the tree. We also made ten
sil to go on it. When we were
through we asked Mrs. Thomas to
'come and see it., Mrs. Laboon
reading the story of Birds’ Christ
imas Carol to us. We are enjoying
it very much.
Some of the members of our
class have brought Christmas re
cords for us. They are Butch
Owens and Janice Berryman. We
thank them very much for the re
cords.
This afternoon at 4:30 at the
Fine Arts Auditorium, The boys’
choir of Case Street School are
going to sing. The boys have
worked very hard. They are going
to sing many Christmas -carols.
The boys from our sctool that are
going to sing are: Byron Alexan
der, Tommy White, John Load
erdale, Sonny Cooper, Albert
Pickett, David Paris, David Nor
ris, Johnny Bary, Pat Shields, and
Bobby Seagraves. We, think it is
a privilege to have so many boys
in the choir from one room.
In history we are studying the
Revolutionary War. This is inter
esting to us because history is a
new subject.
The part we enjoyed most was
the section about the Bostor Tea
Party.
Bryon Alexander brought us a
world map that we can use in
geography and history.
In Arithmetic this week we are
learning to use zeros in division.
We also are learning that num
bers will go less times than they
will actually. It is fun to learn
new ways.
We, want toswish you a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year.
—Laura Alice Doster
—Patty Emerson
Mrs. Daniel’s Class
This week we welcomed a new
boy to our class. He is Billy Dick
ens from Florida.
We have done several water
color pictures about Christmas
this week. We also made some
Christmas cards. We put the pic
tures and the cards up on- the
board. They make the room look
very bright.
Mrs. Thomas came last week and
we worked with cloy. The follow=
ing people had good pieces. Har
ry Saye, Jackie Escoe, Bubber
Thompson, Jimmy Duncan, Luther
Nolan, Jackie Hardeman, Louise
Archer, and Tommy Gordon. Tom
my, Gordon’s piece was chose as
the best in the class.
In our rythm class dances, Lit
tle Brown Jug and Come Let Ns
Be Joyful.
We are comparing our oun city
with Athens, Greece. This study
makes us proud to live in Athens.
Our Christmas tree decorations
that we have been making add
much to the big tree ? the hall.
We also have made a nice surprise
for each mother and daddy.

the cathedral rang out so beauti
fully.
We have been reading the daily
news reports of the eruptions of
Mt. Hibok—Hibok in the Phillip
