ANTI-STALINITE—Adm. Alan
G. Kirk, who recently resigned
as U. S. ambassador to the Soviet
Union, announced he will head
the American Committee for the
Liberation of the Peoples of Rus
sia. Their aim is to spark a re
volt against the Kremlin and to
aid anti-Communist emigres of
Russia. Says Admiral Kirk: “If
the Stalinist regime is our ene
my, the people enslaved by him
in the Soviet Union are our
friends.”
GENM SETTINGS GO CIRULAR
French craftsmen are credited
with the new trend in this coun
try to set diamonds in circular
mountings of the all-precious
white metal palladium, rather
than traditional square mountings.
Prompting the change is the feel
ing that the shape of the mount
ing should blend with the round
ness of the gem, thus magnifying
the size and fiery quality of the
stone. Palladium is also increas
ingly favored by designers be
cause of its ability to hold stones
securely, and without danger of
chipping during the operation of
setting the stones.
A small bunch of frosted grapes
makes a beautiful garnish for a
mixed fruit cup.
Automobiles painted green are
not sold in India. Green is sup
posed to be bad luck.

' DIAMOND RINGS ON A
BUDGET
A precious white palladiunr, or
two-tone palladium and gold, be
trothal ring with as many as 16
diamonds need cost a groom-to
be as little as SIOO to $l5O to
day, yet will please an heiress. A
modern version of the classic
princess-style band, it spotlights
a center stone ranging up to one
third of a carat, surrounded by up
to 16 tiny diamonds in a cluster
effect. The ring appears to contain
twice its actual carat weight of
gems.
