Phi Mu Alumnae
Held Meeting
At Country Club
Phe Athens Phi Mu Alumnae
Association held a luncheon meet
ing February 13 at the Country
Club. At this time the following
new officers were elected: Mrs.
Clifford Tuck, president; Mrs.
Frank Dudley, vice-president;
Mrs. Lee Bradberry, treasurer;
Mrs. James W. Alexander, secre
tary.
Delegates were elected to attend
the Phi Mu Centennial Convention
in Macon in June. Miss Marion
West was elected delegate, and
Mrs. Lee Bradberry was named
alternate delegate. At this conven
tion the Athens group will be pre
sented its charter as an alumnae
association. Mrs. Preston Brooks
was named to receive this charter.
Phi Mu had its beginning at Wes
leyan College in Macon, in 1852,
and was first known as the Phil
omathean Society. Mrs. Brooks
was a Philomathean while she at
tended Wesleyan College.
. Plans were made for the annual
Founders Day Banguet, which
will be held at the Athens Coun
try Club, March 4, at 6:30 p. m.
Any Phi Mu alumnae in the Ath
ens area are cordially invited to
attend, and are requested to con
tact Mrs. Frank Dudley for reser
vations,

felsville PTA omned‘its regular
Impnthly meeting ' Wednesday
night, February 6, at 7:30 in the
Home Economics building, with
Jack Gober, jr., president,”in the
chair. After singing “Holy, Holy,
Holy,” Alvin Baker led the group
in prayer. Mr. Gober welcomed
the good attendance on Founders’
Day, and introduced Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Maddox, visitors.
During the business session a
collection was made for Founders’
Day.
Room call was made and Mrs.
Ellis Burroughs’ room won SI.OO
and the half holiday with the most
members present.
Mrs. Pa‘ql Burroughs reported
that th@® High School Athletic
Association, which sponsored a
chicken supper at the schoel on
February 2, has paid for the
new warm-up uniforms, which
‘was the purpose of the supper.
Mr. Gober announeed the Girls’
Basketball tournament at Colbert,
February 11. Our teanr played Co
mer at 9 p. m.
The boys’ tournament will be in
Carnesville Tuesday, February 19.

7:30 p. m,

of the Founders’ Day program,

Heart, Founders of the National
Congress of Parents and Teachers.
She also otid of the development
of this organization during its 55
years of usefulness.
Since the local PTA is eleven
years old this month, those who
have served as president were in
vited to be present to speak to us.
They were Mrs. E. O. Payne, Mrs.
Mary Huff, Mrs. John Burroughs,
Mrs. Perry Smith, Mrs. Jack Go
ber, sr., Mrs. Ollie Griffeth, Jack
Gober, jr.
There were six charter members
present. Mrs., D. C. Baker, char
tet member and first secretary,
read the minutes of the first
meeting of the Danielsville PTA.
There were messages from Mrs.
John Burroughs, Mrs. Ollie Grif
feth and Mrs. Jack Gober, jr.
Mrs. Howard Strickland brought
in the birthday cake, white and
pink, with eleven lighted candles.
Miss Ilene O’Kelley asked Mr.
Gober to cut the cake. The host
esses, Mesdames Alvin Baker,
Hervin Mann and Mrs. William
son served coffee and doughnuts.
